For some people it doesn't work at all. But it's suppose to basically numb you.

Can't help as i haven't had an epidural but i had my first 2 with only gas and delivered both prosterior which is rare and apparently more excruciating. I didnt scream or yell at all with my first and it was a very long labour. My second was longer and i screamed a bit but bub was stuck for 5hrs at 10cm. I'm overdue now with #3 and still freaking a bit about it all but i know first time round i was so terrified and excited at the same time. I found a mirror helped as soon as i could see bubs head the pain didn't matter and it took them 45mins to stitch me as i tore really bad. Try not to stress about it. Your beautiful bundle will be here soon and you quickly forget about the pain. All the best x

I had epidural, and it completely took away the pain of the contractions for the last hour before i had to start pushing. I could still feel some, but it was an amazing relief to me, allowed me to catch my breath a moment, before the real work started. For the actual delivering of the baby, it just numbed a bit. I used the epidural to maintain/regain some strength for the last moments, because i was starting to black out from exhaustion. I'm glad i did, cause i passed out a short moment on 2nd last push before baby came, i think it would have been much worse otherwise...

I'd advise: try without epidural, because better for you and baby, but know it is a possibility, and ask for it if you need it.

I had an epidural with my little girl. My legs and lower belly got really numb. Almost to the point where I wasn't feeling anything anymore, except for a little pressure. So happy I got the epidural because I ended up having a c section in the end.

I swore I wouldn't have one but by 6cm I tapped out! And I honestly can say getting the epidural was the best decision I ever made I didn't feel a thing! Unfortunately the only negative part was that I couldn't even feel myself pushing so I literally had to imagine I was pooping and bam he was out lol

I'm just getting so impatient I want to hold my son already but then again I think about the labor and I'm somewhat glad the day hasn't come lol. Mixed emotions I guess but it doesn't help when my bf won't give me somewhat of a hand to induce me.

I got to 6cm and also tapped out, (decided to take it til than bcus i was seeing if i could handle the pain, but the farther i got the painful the contractions got)  i got the epidural but it lslowed down the contractions i couldve had the baby within 6 hours with the worst pain of my life , instead i had her 13 hours later with no pain at all, i dont regret getting the epidural, i dont care what people say, im not a beast if i feel pain and if there is something to relieve me from it i will opt for it... By the time i had to push i only felt like i had to take a massive poop, also did not hurt just mild pain , my baby came out on the 3 push, within five minute.  My sister kept telling me to push out a little in every contraction which you will see on the monitor because you dont feel it, i think that helped me open up , nurse kept telling me not to do that though but i still did it, she had never had kids, and my sister has 3.
Hope this helps you a little in making your decision.

Hm for me the actual pushing out of the baby did still hurt/feel very unpleasant. I felt my downstairs area tair the final 2 pushes (it was a bit extreme with me, it's not usually so bad. My gyn had a lot of sowing to do lol). I think not all administer same dose (+ you can increase dosage yourself, which i didn't), so there are degrees in howmuch you still feel or not.

I was begging for the epidural by eight cm and boy did it help! The only thing I didn't expect though was feeling the contractions bad again by the end. But at that point I could push so it actually kind of helped motivate me to get her out lol my nurse didn't let me hit the button but honestly I'm kind of glad. Only six hours of intense labor before she showed up. And it's a feeling I will not forget!

I apparently have a (harmless) skin condition i didn't know about, which caused my skin not to be supple enough and caused more to tear than normal (i don't know the name in English). Don't worry, that sounds worse than it is, but quite painful as it happened. My baby was 3.355kg, which is average.

I was at 7cm when i asked for epidural, but from 7cm-10cm only took 1hr.

Labor was all I thought about for weeks the pros cons the pain. I went into labor at 4am had him at 11am. Didn't feel a thing thanks to the epidural, no tearing, no complications. Was able the leave the next day rather than 48 hours. Was up and active after that.

Literally the perfect labor I was very grateful. Just relax as much as possible and remember it's your pregnancy I had the doctors turn the lights EVERYTIME they left the room sitting up helped a lot for some reason. And remember the baby will be out one way or another and then literally you forget everything.
