Cloth Diapers

I dont know if its been talked about here but it has other places.  I was just wondering if any of you are or have used cloth diapers?  I wasn't going to.  But the more and more i look into it, i am very excited and cant wait to do it.  How much i'm going to save on diapers a year is so amazing!!!!  Its insane.  But i just wanted to throw this out there and see what you ladies think about this, if your doing it or if you have done it!

Hope you are all doing great!

I havent used cloth diapers, and am generally pretty environmental friendly but I can't convince myself to buy all the stuff for the cloth diapers! There are so many brands and this and that. THe fuzzi bunz diapers are ridiculously expensive for something your child just soils! I have to admit that the thought of laundering a bunch of poopy diapers or rinsing them out is just not something that appeals to me.

I am very "hippie"ish in most respects, and maybe it's better for the baby, etc etc but I just dont have a few extra hundred dollars to spend, even if you may save money in the long run.

Good for you for trying it, my only advice may be to not spend TOO much money invested in it until you know for sure whether or not you will want to stick with it!

I had your same concerns about washing them and everything.  But when i got on this one website they tell you everything you need to know ie: what to get, how much you will need, and everything under the sun!  With EVERYTHING i need and this is including a few extras that i dont really need but would like to just have it comes too $380!

To me yes that is a chunck of change up front...but i mean you buy a pack of 200 some diapers at $40 or whatever your gonna spend that amount in a matter of a few months compared to thats all im going to spend over the whole course of diapering my child!

Im ready to take the plunge!!!  haha  The more i got into it, the more i got excited about it.

Now im not saying that we wont have disposable diapers around for long car rides, or for a babysitter if we have one, that way its easier in that aspect, but for the most part im going with cloth....Im going to be a stay at home mom anyways and we dont pay for water where we live so thats another plus!

I'll tell you how it goes, then maybe you could give it a try!

I think it's awesome...My Mom used cloth diapers with all 3 of us kids.....I was allergic to disposable so she didn't have a choice really....I was thinking about it...mentioned it to DH and he was like NO WAY....(men for you), so I guess I won't do it being it would be so inconsistant....But if it's something you can commit to and everyone who will be helping out is for it, I say YAHOO for you!

Yeah we thought about doing it in the beginning then never talked about again, so i figured we werent going to do it.  But then my partner the other week was talking about it again so hes ready and on board with it.  I knew he would, hes a bigger environmentalist than i am and takes care of adults who are incapable of taking care of themselves.  So washing dirty diapers he can completely stomach.

Im really looking forward to it, as weird as that sounds.  I just wish i could find others on here who have done the same thing.

I use cloth
I don;t see how it is 380- dollars??

you need laundrey detergent and bleach (have those anyway)
you need a diaper pail (cheapie is fine you don;t want them sitting around)
you need rubber pants (4 pair for less than 10 dollars)
and maybe 2-3 dozen diapers.

you should wash the diapers every two or three days when they are smelly - I kept a deoderizer in the pail

I HATE seeing all that waste of paper diapers - They are just garbage in the dump no way!
Best of luck

Well my cost included diapering until they are all the way potty trained.  Thats for EVERYTHING.  plus a diaper bag and some other things.  380 wasnt that bad of a price to me and my partner.  Where did you get your diapers from?  i think we are going to order ours either from diapersetc.com or nickisdiapers.com

I see well i found a different website that offers package deals and i think it will now only cost like $200 for everything i need.  These ones i guess are thicker than the ones that you can just get from the store.

Hi!
I've used cloth diapers on my daughter and they have been way easier than I thought they would be!  Really the only problem has been with fitting clothing over the diapers.  I actually started a line of organic jeans to fit the cloth diapers because it has been such a problem!  Check them out: http://www.greengamboni.com.  Also, All About Cloth is a great blog site FULL of reviews and information on cloth diapers!
Best,

Anne
