Kidney Dialation and Head Measures Small

My 20 week Ultrasound showed my baby girls kidneys dilated and her head measured small. This is my first baby so I don't know if this is a common accuracy. Has any one had this happen and if so what was the outcome?

Please help I am desperate for answers :(

Thank you very much for your helpful information. I have another ultrasound in a few days to check up on everything and I am terrified. I have been researching online which might be a bad idea and found out that my little girl has two soft markers for down syndrome. All I really want is a healthy happy baby. This parenting stuff is really stressful.

Hi, I had this happen to me when I was pregnant with my son in 1999.  His kidneys were dialated as well.  They didn't say anything about his head, though, so I am not sure if I can help you there, but I can tell you what happened with me and the kidneys.  What happened was I went in for frequent ultrasounds, becuase they actually said it's a pretty common occurance.  Boys are more likely to have this happen than girls, but it does happen.  Usually, the baby's kidneys will correct themselves before birth, and if not, shortly thereafter.  What they had told me was if it didn't fix itself or show any signs of fixing itself after birth, there was a chance for surgery.  I am not sure to do what, they didn't really explain that to me because they said they didn't want to have to start going through it if it was unnecessary.  And they didn't.  My son continued to have a couple of ultrasounds after birth to make sure of any progress, and they did eventually fix themselves.  They said that it's actually more uncommon they don't fix themselves than not.  And to this day my son is healthy, and had never had a problem.  Of course, keep in mind this was 10 years ago, and I am not sure howthey handle this situation now, but I am sure not too much differently.  You also have to keep in mind the severity of the dialation.  If it is an extreme situation, they probably will handle it differently.  But I wouldn't worry about it now.  They will just watch closely.  Good luck to you!!  And I hope I ahve helped you, even a little bit.
