Twins & Considering Vag Birth?

I was just wondering if anyone pg with twins is considering going vaginal birth instead of c section? I am thinking of this option since I am healthy and the babies are doing fine.

Thank you I do too! I just want the option of trying to go vaginally and hopefully this new DR will be on board with that too. I read that 1/2 of twins are delivered vag so I think those are some pretty good odds:)

AS LONG as the placenta and cord are attached and functioning, the baby has all of the oxygen it needs.  so the whole oxygen deprivation of the second twin is not an issue unless the cord gets tied off somehow (which is pretty uncommon)
this is why more progressive midwives and doctors do not cut the umbillical cord until the baby is breathing well and the cord has stopped pulsing (because the baby can also be rather anemic if the blood is still in the cord and not in the baby)

Wow crazy decisions to make... I had to challenge my self, if I really wanted a VBAC to Dr/Midwife search while TTC.. every office kept telling me just to get pregnant, then we'll see. Easier said than done.

Well after 9months I was a success and found on office at 2months pregnant who has cared for me and will suport my decision for a VBAC delivery. I am nervous, but very anxious to have natural child birth and see my daughter right away and recover faster.

Good luck and keep looking for what you'd like, this is your body and babies.. I hope all goes well either way you choose or how it happens.

Good luck ladies!  The only thing that I have heard about twin deliveries is often the second baby takes longer and oxygen deprived that can lead to all sorts of issues for the baby down the road.  I have had a friend that delivered her twins vaginally and did fine, but they had her deliver in the operating room to be safe and had everyone around just in case.  If she did need a c-section at the last minute she was told with no epidural in place she would be put under. So she opted for the epidural just in case so she would be awake when they were born.

Our doctor told us that it is common that the first one comes out and then the second one flips, but that they can often reach in and pull them out rather than a C section as long as the baby is not in distress....good luck!!  :)

I feel the same way why would I do an unnecessary abdominal surgery unless absolutely necessary right? The wierd thing is my obgyn said he ONLY does c sections and this is for ALL his patients. I think it is to keep his office hours and not being called in at all hours but isn't this what a obgyn does? I agree with the baby positioning and hope they follow each other:)

I can't believe he wont give you the option of vag birth! All of the twin books I have read are really positive about vag births as is my doctor and as long as heads are down I can't see why he would be so against it! That puts you in a tough place! :-(

Both of mine are head down and we really hope they stay that way however I am open to what ever needs to be done. My biggest fear is baby A is a vag birth and then B flips and then have to get her out with a c cection!

Good luck!!!

doctors like to control the situation and childbirth is something they try to control as well.
remember that OBs are surgeons first.  that's what their training is, so that's what they like to do.
there is also the sad reality that hospitals and doctors make more money off of csection births than vaginal births, so hospital policy tends to err on the side of surgery.
so if you want a vaginal birth with twins, to not be induced at 37 weeks just because they think it's time for your babies to be born and to have a say in your childbirth process, i would look into a doctor who is supportive of your choices, or possibly a midwife if you have one in your area who is comfortable with multiples.
i am fortunate enough to have a free standing midwife practice 30 minutes from my house.  i also see a high risk OB due to my age (36) and our increased risk of downs.  they are already talking about induction because my baby is measuring big.  thankfully the midwives will not go that route unless the baby is in distress.

Thanks for the advice. My DR is fighting me saying he only does C Sections which I think is strange.

we have 2 twin mommas in our childbirth class planning unmedicated vaginal births and our instructor has done it successfully with twins as well.
so it is possible, but you may have to fight for it with the doctors and nurses.
she did advise them to NOT go to the hospital until they were in a hard labor because they tend to set a clock on your labor when you arrive.
she also said the less medications you take, the more productive your labor will be and the more likely you are to progress fast enough to make the staff happy.
if you can find someone local that has done it, they can certainly help you prepare as well.
personally i will do everything i can to avoid having major surgery because i want to spen dmore time getting to know my daughter and less time recovering.

Our surrogate wants to do vaginal as well -- we are 28 weeks, no issues, and both head down.  If they stay that way, she will try vaginal and only go to a C section if need be. All of her previous pregnancies delivered fine vaginally, so we are going to give it a whirl! The doctors did tell us they tolerate 0 risk and will do a C section immediately if need be, but she can try vaginally first...
