High AFP

Today I was told my level II bloodwork (16 wk) came back with very high AFP, the 99th percentile. So far my early blood was good, my 12 wk sono was good, normal Nuchal, and saw the LO kicking up a storm. 16 OB was good too w good strong hb, no sono.

I'm so worried what this could mean. I haven't felt baby moving yet which of course is freaking me out all the more (this is baby #2 and I thought I'd feel something earlier).

We have an early anatomy sono scheduled for tomorrow + a meeting with a genetic counselor. I know that there are a lot of false positives to this test but that it still results in a high risk pregnancy.

Anybody out there been here & can provide some insight/education/etc.
Thanks.

Thanks for checking in. We received news no one wants to hear, abnormal scan. We had an MRI & amnio. Prelim results confirm a form of spina bifida. We have been referred to Philadelphia as possible in utero surgical candidates. Our eval is August 11th. Please keep our family & this baby girl in your thoughts and prayers.

I just had an apt yesterday with the genetic counselor. I opted out the the amnio and just did the additional bloodwork. Now its the waiting gane for the results. Goodluck!!! You are not alone.

Sorry you are going through this :-( I just wanted to let you know, I am pregnant with my fifth, and didn't feel the baby move until almost 19 weeks, so don't worry about that. My advice would be just to pray, God still works miracles! Good luck momma.
