Kuala Lumpur!

Just in the middle of booking a trip to Kuala Lumpur with DH and Lucy! It will be her first time out of the country (though not on a plane) and I can't wait. We are going in May next year (2010)!

Just wondering if anyone has any advice (supersally?) about travelling overseas with baby?

For instance, should I pack jars of food, or buy food for her there?

As far as I know car seat is not compulsory in KL. I've never used one there.

I am sure they don't have taxis with baby car seats at the airport.

Even Hong Kong.  Philipppines is also not compulsory, though i have one and use it as I think it's the safest way to travel.

What sort of things do you like?  nature or manmade?

To be honest, I haven't done much there touristy because Im always there for work.

More later.

Do we need to take a car seat? If we get a taxi to the hotel (form the airport) will we be able to order a taxi with a car seat? Or is it like Bali and not compulsory?

Anything you would recommend seeing or doing while in KL?

Where in Malaysia will you stay.

It's hot there all year round. Like steamy hot, but inside can be cold (airconditioning).  So dress for hot weather, but with light jackets for indoors, if necessary.

Food is all safe and plenty of choices from chinese, Malay, and indian.  Plenty of wonderful fruits.  Can buy food off the streets or in restaurants, but the small eating places (hawkers centres) are best.  Food is very cheap.

You can buy everything you'd need for a baby, including baby food Heinz and the like.  Am sure you'll find food lucy can have.  Also can buy diapers there.  Don't fill up your luggage with diapers.

Recommend bringing the lightest and most easy to handle stroller you have.  A baby carrier, if you have a comfortable one will also be useful.

Sunglasses and sunhats.  long sleeves to cover up from the sun, if you're out in it for any length of time.  You can buy soap powder if need be to hand wash clothes in hotel rooms.  Keep you luggage as light as possible.

You can buy clothes there cheaply also, so under rather than overpack. :)

Make sure you book a basinette seat.  Lucy will still be able to fit in one.  You'll have to book it ahead possibly.  If you can't get a basinette seat get an aisle seat, or one at the front of a section where you have more leg room.

What's your plan and itinerary?  Anyway heaps of time.  Ask me questions?

Hi,

yes, lots of advice.  :)  M and I travel all the time, and to Malaysia several times already.  We're going again next week.

I'm at work now (day trip to our Hong Kong office) and can't reply at length, but will do so in the next day or two.

How exciting.  Travelling with baby is no problem at all, with a little preparation. :)
