Absolute essentials for new baby???

For a number of reasons (that I am now regretting), I am not having my shower until Jan. 30th and my due date is 2/6/10.  For the last few days, I have just had this feeling, based on nothing, that I am going to go early. SOOOO, I am starting to panic just a bit.  Since I was a childcare provider for so long, I have a number of 'hardware' things...a bouncy chair, pacifiers, car seat, stroller, etc.  But I am curious what everyone thinks are the absolute MUST-HAVEs for the new baby...onesies, nursing bras, pads, etc.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! (Again, though, I am only looking for the necessities!!!)

Thanks ;)

You also need some rubbing alcohol if you don't already have it for the babys umbilical cord. Some cotton balls and qtips are good to have. I have cloth diapers that are used as burp cloths just because milk has a tendency to run under the chin and on the neck and behind his ears so i use the cloth diaper to prevent that a little bit. Hope this helps!

A swing for the baby was my life saver with Quinn. :)  Of course YES to the nursing bra and breast shields. The engorgement and leaking is never pleasant., Esp when you wake in the middle of the night and both you and the bed are soaked with milk.
Pacifiers are great but Quinn never wanted one.
I highly suggest bottles and formula. I breast fed Quinn for 7 months however when I first came home from the hosp my milk was not in and she was not getting enough and was HUNGRY. I finally broke down after much angst and made her a small bottle to supplemet until my milk was in. Thank Goodness I did that. She would of latched on every 20 mins otherwise trying to get full.  She had no problem going from breast to bottle.
I also buy the large burp cloths. That way if I am out or we have company they really keep the boobs concealed while nursing. ;)

Also buy yourself the super duty heavy over night pads. You will be shocked at how much u bleed after delivery and the hosp ones suck!!

Being winter babies I have a ton of fleece sleepers and onesies. This is pretty much all I will put him in. :)  I also bought 3 swaddlers for night time..   Also butt cream for them and their sensitive baby skin...

I am sure you will get some more great ideas.

-Onesies
-Sleep and Play outfits
-If you are bf'ing, then yes, nursing bras
-A small can of back up formula
- A couple of bottles just in case
-Diapers/Wipes
-If you're having a boy and getting him circumsized, then vaseline
-Baby wash for sponge bathing & lotion...
-That's all I can think of at the moment as for essentials you'll need.

As for yourself:
Granny panties lol
Super long ultra absorbant maxi pads
Comfy comfy comfy pants!!
