membrane sweep!...(longish..sorry!) please reply :(

Not gonna lie, no one ever replies when i post to the 18-24 pregnancy forum thingy so i am reposting this on this February 2015 baby forum. Lol Ftm. 38+2 weeks and just had my appointment a few hours ago. Doctor asked me if i wanted a membrane sweep and i wasn't quite sure what it was so she explained it to me. Since i was told by the nurse she was going to check me anyways i said sure. My goodness was it uncomfortable! She had my husband hold my hand. Haha! But i found out i'm finally dialating. Woo! 1.5cm i continued to read more about the sweep and it said it's usually offered to ftm at 40 or 41 weeks and to women who've had a baby already at 41 weeks. I also read that it could possibly bring labour on quickly, usually within 48 hours. I don't think i've had any contractions, but i've gotten a lot of belly tightening. What i'm basically asking is, does the sweep really work? It'd be nice to have my baby before his due date(Feb 17th) but NOT on Valentine's day. Haha

From what I was told there's a 50/50 chance of it working. I know few girls it has worked for though, good luck(:

I've read a few people's comments on other posts, some say they work and some say they don't. I guess it depends on the person and the baby. I've also heard that they do sweeps at 37 weeks not 40 or 41. My first baby came early and I was never given a membrane sweep or checked to see if I was dilated. I'm due 2 days after you and have been trying to speed up the process by eating tonssss of pineapple and doing yoga. Good luck!
