Past due date induction???

Im a FTM due on the 21st, doc said today that if my son is not here by next weekend they will schedule me to be induced after my due date at 41 weeks.  I thought being induced was so that you don't go past your due date.  I'm so confused.... O_o

Yea your due date is generally an estimation. So you could be told you're 40 weeks & really be 39 so they wait at least a week after your EDD before inducing you. My due date was the 8th. I'll be induced tomorrow at 41 weeks

Since the due date is a estimate they leave being induced untill 8 days after your due date. Thats how i understand it . Unless induction is medically need before then.

I'm due the 21st as well and they said today if my baby doesn't come this week coming up I'll be induced Friday the 13th he doesn't want me going over 39 weeks cause of gestational diabetes. I thought the same that you would be induced before due date or at 40 weeks.
