Marley Lynn's Birth Story

Marley Lynn was born at 7:33pm on 01/13/11. She weighed 7lbs10oz and was 19in long, and absolutely perfect in every way.
We went into be induced shortly after midnight on the 13th. I had been in early labor for a few days, and we wanted to speed things up a little bit. I was admitted and hooked up to moniters, then was started on cytotek (similar to cervidial) to ripen my cervix. I was already dialated to a 1 1/2- 2 and was 60% effaced. The plan was to do 3 rounds of cytotek, then start pitocin. I guess i was further in labor than we thought, because after the first dose, my contractions came 2-3 min apart, and they broke my water. I got the epidural at 10:45am, because they told me if I was planning on getting one to do so then, since I was laboring faster than expected. It worked like a charm, and I I felt NOTHING from then on.
The epidural did slow things down some, so around 2 they started me on pitocin. Ten minutes later the nurses rushed in and stopped the pitocin, because it was stressing the baby, and it was taking longer for her heartrate to recover from contractions. They had me on oxygen and told me they were going to allow me to labor without drugs until my midwife came in around 6. Even without pitocin, Marley was showing signs of distress, and when my midwife came in she consulted with the OB on call and they assumed that she had cord compression somewhere.
They told me I could continue to try naturally, but if the distress didn't resolve soon, I could be looking at an emergency c-section situation, or I could go ahead and get the c-section, and it not be as dyer or rushed. After talking with DH I decided to go ahead and get the cesaerean, because by then I knew the chances were slim of delivering naturally, and I didn't want my baby to go through anymore stress than what she had.
The surgery was very smooth, my only complaint was I felt somewhat claustrophobic with the pressure at the end and needed a mild sedative while they closed me up. They determined what caused the stress was Marley had balled up the entire umbilical cord in her arms with her foot hung on part of it lol. Silly girl was taking it with her no matter what! :0)
My recovery has been a breeze, mild soreness around the incision, but nothing excruciating. I was able to walk around about 12 hours after and was fine. I was discharged Sat and things have been pretty smooth. She lost some weight because my milk hadn't come in yet, so we are supplementing formula and breastfeeding. It seems to fill her more, and it allows DH to feed more too. I am pumping and have a decent milk supply thus far. DH and I are soo in love with her, she's perfect to us in every way.

Sorry its so long hope all you other new mommies are doing well, it took us a LONG 9 months but we made it! :0)
