My first u/s technically isn't scheduled until Aug. 31st which would put me at 20 1/2 wks...which I found really odd.   However I ended up having one June 2nd in emerg due to circumstances.   I wonder why their is such a difference in when first u/s are given. Twenty wks seems really late does it not?

In my experience most docs wont even see you until your about 8 weeks. And depending on what your insurance you can usually request an ultrasound when you call to make your appt. I'm getting my first at about 8 weeks at a free family planning center, they told me they would do it for free, making sure everything is normal. My insurance doesnt fully kick in (recently married in December and am getting on my husbands) until june 1st and i was too impatient to wait, since i dont get insurance until then, and who knows when the next available appt would be, prolly a couple weeks from then.

To Armywife,
I grew up a navy kid, and when we were overseas, my mother was pregnant with my twin brothers when we were stationed in Japan, They only did 2 ultrasounds the whole pregnancy, one in the beginning, and the second one was while doing a stress test 2 weeks before her due date and found out she was having twins! and they were born the next day.

Great to hear!  It's probably a better thing having to wait a bit longer, as I said, when you go earlier and find that you don't see everything that you are hoping to see - you end up worrying more than if you had only waited the initial 2 extra weeks!  I wish that my fertility doctor would have waited longer, (like my family doctor does) but now I just have to contend with him trying to decipher if I have a viable pregnancy because he isn't familiar with my longer ovulation cycles.  Sigh.  Anyway, so long as there aren't any cramps, pain or bleeding I think everything should be fine and I will remain focused and positive until I am told otherwise!  I think that is the best we can do!  Hang in there, it will seem like June 9th (for Mommashelley1) is a long way away, but it will come sooner than you think... and after that you will wonder where in the world did those 9 months go... of course until you get to week 40 and you are tired of being pregnant!!! LOL!
Keep me posted!!  :)

Thank you... well I figured out why I’m getting my 1st U/S kind of late. I mentioned earlier this week that I remember the nurse saying something bout my doctor going on a mission trip with his son. I called the doctors officer and that was it. He won’t return until the 7th and I’m supposed to go the 9th. For the 1st initial U/S and check up they want you to see your primary doctor. Then for all check up after that it’s ok to be seen by other doctors if mine isn’t there..2 more weeks to go !

Hi there!
Maybe by now you have already decided to have your ultrasound earlier, but just wanted to say that when you have your u/s early, you may not get to see the embryo or heartbeat, which is currently what I am going through, and already went through with my first!  It's certainly adds a bit of a scare since you want to see that everything is progressing normally.  I think this is why my family doctor has said on both occasions he wished I waited until after 8 weeks, so that I wouldn't be giving myself false insecurities or worries that the baby isn't developing properly.  If you do have your u/s sooner than 9th June, just keep in mind you may not see a heartbeat up to and even after 8 weeks from your LMP.  It is so hard to wait, I know going through it myself, but now it's even harder to wait because I have to re-scan and hope that nothing is wrong also!
Good luck, and please let us all know how you do!
Sincerely,

See! thats how it was with my DD  my insur. covered 1 every visit. and we all know doctors  love insurance comp!!  which i liked BC i got to see her grow a little every visit. Well my doctor told me that he was going a his sons senior mission trip with him to china for 2 weeks but i couldnt remeber if it was before my visit or afterm I asked my husband and he said he thought it was before my visit.. so maybe thats why is 10 weeks not 7 weeks? IDK?

My first us wasn't schedualed until I was 9 weeks but I called and told them that i wanted a 6 week us:) After all, I am the boss...I hired my Dr. and as far as I am concerned, she works for me and I call the shots:) with both of my other pregnancys I got an us everytime I had an appt because my insurance covered it and I wanted it:) I do trust my Dr and I don't boss her around on anything else I let her do her job...Im just a bit bossy when it comes to u/s:)

With my first two children I had my first ultrasound at 12 weeks- this is standard I think. This time I'm having an ultrasound at 7 weeks because my Dr wants to check that everything is going ok because I suffered 2 miscarriages before conceiving this one. So if it wasn't for the m/c's my first u/s wouldn't have been until 12 weeks. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you :)
