Baby Measuring Ahead

I went to the Dr today and had an ultrasound done (having them done more often bc I am on a beta blocker and this can sometimes slow down a baby's development) and baby is 3 lbs 12 oz and measuring 2 weeks ahead!!  WHOA!  Dr. was surprised bc obviously if anything we expect baby to be right on track or a little small.  Do you guys think this means that I will deliver earlier?  He told me my due date is now showing June 23 as opposed to July 6, but didn't really say that this means I will deliver sooner....just wondering what measuring ahead really means, if anything.

Are you positive of your last period dates and when you got pregnant? If so, your original due date is still the "real" due date. They will sometimes adjust the due date based on baby's size if you're not sure...but that doesn't always mean that's *really when you're due. At this point in a pregnancy, genetics take over and there is no one size a baby "should" be. There is a range, with average in the middle...and although your baby is measuring two weeks further along, that's still within "normal" for this point in a pregnancy. So...all it means is that you have a bit bigger baby! Your baby may keep growing at that rate, or may slow down and be more average toward the end of your pregnancy. Also, ultrasounds are more of an estimate, and can be somewhat off. The morning I went into labor with my son, they said he was measuring 6 lbs, 10 oz. Six hours later I was holding an 8 lb 8oz baby!

Anyway...don't put too much stock in those estimates, hoping the baby will be here in June. If he/she comes a little early, that's great - but don't expect it, then be disappointed, you know? They will come in their own good time! :-)

Same here!!  I'm a HUGE pain wimp!  I'm also scared that something will go wrong with baby or me.  Just fear of the unknown I guess....

Yep!  We do have the same one, then!  Great minds think alike!

I know how you feel!  I am SO tired all the time, but I too have to work fulltime, so sleeping/resting during the day isn't really an option.  The tightness is there for me as well - it feels so good for DH to rub it.  I'm just tired and achy all the time and feel like I'm probably no fun to be around right now either bc I'm kinda crabby! LOL! :-)  I also feel like he's kind of moving downward - it that makes any sense.  Its kinda like a shift down from where my ribs are (although I can definitely feel his little feet stretchin up there sometimes) - I don't know what that's about.
This too is my first little one, so I'm also getting kind of anxious about the whole labor and delivery part.  How about you?

Ladybug- Too funny I'm 5'7 and was 127 you are almost my stats. Your dr will most likely do a u/s and see the size of the baby. I'm in the same boat. Except my belly measurments aren't ahead my weight is I'm gaining 9 lbs every 2 weeks and that is alot. I'm 188 and that was almost 2 wks ago. I have a scheduled u/s and in 2 weeks and he is going to check the weight and length of the baby and if he's as big as he thinks he is it's time to check and see the lungs and then make a plan from there. He wants me to have a vag due to all the complications I have had with my previous c-sections and ovarian and hematoma surgery. So if the baby is too big that could interfere with a vag delivery and cause problems if a c-section is needed in case of emerg. I would def talk to him or her about a plan and see what you should do. If you are measuring and the baby is a month ahead they should want to change the due date I would think. However I'm not a dr and I'm noticing all dr's practice medicine differently! In my opinion they should up your delivery date! I hope everything works out awesome. Let me know what happens!

Anya:  No, I will try to have it vaginally.  You never know, my body may be able to accomodate a baby with a larger head better than my mom's could - we'll see, but I won't be surprised if I try it vaginally and end up with a C-section.  I'm not sure what due date my Dr is going to go with now - I was SO happy that baby wasn't measuring behind bc of my meds that I didn't ask all the questions that I should have.  I go back in two weeks, so I will ask then.  I'm with you on the waiting though!  I can't wait!  I feel fine other than in the afternoons I get really tired and my belly is feeling tight and so heavy in the afternoon.

Hol:  I am 30 weeks by my due date of July 6th and 32 if you use June 23rd (I've got to get a firm answer from my Dr. at my next appt).  Wow!  Your baby is growing growing!!  That is great though - healthy baby!  It wasn't the weight of my little one that made the Dr. put him 2 weeks ahead though, it was the measurements of his femur, girth of body, and size of his head that is so far ahead.  So, I may be having a long and skinny baby!  Ha!  Like his daddy!  How have you been feeling?

How many weeks are you? I"m 28 weeks and I went yesterday and my son is already at 3 pounds 11 ounces!!! And my belly measured 32 cm...!!! They said he is going to be a 8 pounder but didn't move my due date up because he is where he needs to be in measurements and stuff.

AP - I don't know what he will do, I have another appointment in two weeks, and I'm going to ask him what exactly it means to measure ahead.  I am normally smaller framed - i am about 5'8" and 120-125lbs.  Right now I'm all in the front and getting miserable!  I can't sleep, my belly is very very tight and heavy, and everytime I stand up, I swear that it feels like baby's head is just gonna pop out (lol!).  I am just tired tired tired.  But I guess we will wait and see.  How have you been feeling?  LIttle one still making you uncomfortable?

Anya - Dr. would only be doing belly measurements except for the medication I'm on.  Just according to belly measurements I'm just a little ahead (he didn't say for sure), so without the ultrasound I would never have known I guess.  I did ask how they came up with the new date though, They measured his head, his femur, and his torso.  Each part gave a due date and then the report averages them to give an overall due date.  Bless his heart, his head measured the furtherest along, but that's not surprising - my mom (built like me) had to have a C-section when I was born bc her pelvis could not accomodate the size of my head (Ha!).  Are you doing good?

Dani - Thank you!  You are absolutely right!!!  I was so relieved that baby was measuring ahead and not behind that I didn't even ask what that would mean for the length of my pregnancy :-)    I have another appt in 2 weeks though, so I'll ask then i guess.  Are you feeling good?

Wow  Ladybug, these are great news!!! If you deliver early, the faster you will see the baby and hold it in your hands!! Awesome...I am still July 5th, last time the measurements showed right on target but belly measurements, not u/s. I am not going to get any u/s :(
Anyway, its great news!

It honestly depends on your size and the baby itself. If you are tiny and the baby keeps getting bigger your dr may induce you but if you are okay and the baby is the dr may hold off until the baby is ready to meet you! If you end up with a c-section being planned and your dr officially changed your due date it means you will meet your lil one in June and not july! How are you feeling?
