Hey girl - James is a week younger than Cash right? Cash on the 1st and James on the 8th? Since Cash has mild reflux the pediatrician told us to put Gerber rice cereal in his milk to thicken it which would help him keep it down, and that we could put up to a tsp per oz. Well, we don't put that much. Cash drinks 5 oz every 3 hours during the waking hours and we only put 2 tsp in. But, for his bedtime bottle we put 5 tsp in the 5 oz (like the dr. recommended) and use a Level 2 nipple (we use Dr. Brown bottles). When we started doing that he started sleeping longer, and I really believe its bc he stays satisfied longer bc of the rice cereal. Now when I say "thicken the formula" to you and me it doesn't look thick AT ALL it still pours like water, bc you aren't putting enough in there to be considered to be introducing solids (again that's what our dr. said). Just a suggestion, keep us posted on how little man does!!
Wait a minute are you exclusively breast feeding? I can't remember - if so then I don't know about the above bc obviously you can't add cereal to the breast :-) LOL! - Cash is a formula fed baby.
Another thing - sorry I keep thinking of things. Cash would cry and wake up almost every hour for the first 8 weeks of life for what I though was him being hungry, but quickly realized its bc he HATES sleeping on his back. So I tried the carseat in his co-sleeper (at the suggestion of my dr.) and he started sleeping longer. So, then I bought a nap nanny from napnanny . com and also still use the carseat sometimes and either way he sleeps like a champ bc he isn't flat on his back. So he may be uncomfy and not actually hungry. My dr. said that both sleep positions were fine. Cash, in all honesty, sleeps way better on his tummy, but I just can't make up my mind about that yet bc he can't roll over yet and the SIDS stuff says not to do it. Anyway - sorry to blabber on. Hope maybe some of this will help.
Ladybugbob- Thanks for all the info, I do both breast and formula. Honestly I think he does not sleep well bc he does not eat much at once like you say so is hard. Maybe I should try the napnanny and see what happens.
He wakes up eats a little and fall right back to sleep, so I dont know.
You know Cash would do that too and I would do everything I could to make sure he got a full feeding. My dr. suggested the follwoing - massaging the bottoms of their feet, taking their clothes off, wiping them with a cool baby wipe, changing their position. The dr. said that eating a full feeding is a learned habit that some babies have to be taught. So, I did all that stuff for a couple of weeks and sure enough Cash started taking full feedings - I think he may have realized it was better than the alternative - Mommy aggravating him! Maybe some of those things will work for little James!
