I feed him both breastmilk and formula, my breastmilk supplu has always been pretty low so I had to supplement with formula.
He used to eat around 4-5 ounces at a time but now he only takes 2-3 but every 2-3 hours, is pretty bad bc at night he wakes up a lot every 2-3 hours still. He is 2 months 2 weeks and is weighting 13 pounds 6 ounces, so he is gainign weight, but I wish he could eat more and space it out more too.
Jack is almost 12 weeks (born 6-29) and has been eating 5 oz every 3-4 hours besides night time when he can go 7-8 hours without. He has been acting like he's still hungry lately so just yesterday we started 6 oz bottles...last night before bed he actually ate 7 oz.
My doc told me babies generally eat an oz per every 2 lbs. Jack was almost 13 lbs at his 2 month appt. so my doc said 6 1/2 oz was normal eating...he's prob gained since then so I'd say 6-7 oz isn't crazy for him.
I had to give up breastfeeding when I went back to work a couple of weeks ago - it was hard on me because I wanted to breastfeed, but I am a news reporter (i report crime) and my work days are very busy running to crime scenes etc. I don't have a fixed schedule and didn't want to worry about breast engorgement, leaking, etc. while running around or interviewing. Anyhow, I didn't see how it'd be possible so I started Jack on Enfamil Premium with LIPIL. He seems to like it! :) But I wish it was breastmilk. Oh well.
Cash is taking 5oz every 3 hours except at night and he will go up to 8 hours then. I'm probably going to up him to 6 soon bc he's starting to act likes he's still a little hungry after 5, but I'm going to wait to see if that continues before I go to 6. He is 12 weeks old and 15lbs 5 oz (97th percentile for weight), so I'm weary of overfeeding him.
And for you ladies that are breastfeeding I would just love to offer you my support!! I was unable to breastfeed and have always been really dissappointed bc ANY breastmilk is better than none!! You guys are awesome for doing that for your babies! Very admirable!
Of course it's worth it, he is still getting your breast milk..!!! :):):) It's hard, I normally get about 5-6 ounces at his pumping session. I however purchased 3 different pumps and finally I had to get a expensive one Medela pump and it works wonders what a difference, I was only get about 3 ounces at each pumping session.
Good for you!! My Cooper is 8 weeks today. I was not able to keep up with him once I returned to work, though I do still supplement with breastmilk. He takes about 5 ounces at a time, usually 1-2 ounces of that is breastmilk.
(Not to change the subject, but sometimes I wonder if it is even worth the trouble of pumping to be able to give him so little....)
