I had to be induced with my first son 5 days before his due date due to pre-eclampsia. My hubby and I got to the hospital at 11am and then they hooked me up to an IV and started me on Pitocin to start my contractions, I was only 2cm dilated when I went in, well throughout the whole day and night they had to keep upping the Pitocin because I just stayed at 2cm until the next morning at 8am when the Dr decided to break my water since I wasn't progressing, after they broke my water I quickly started to dilate and my contractions were so intense that I had to get an epidural by the time I hit 5cm (but personally I think it was due to the Pitocin) after a couple hours after I had my epidural I felt my son drop all of a sudden and had the urge to push so at 4:34pm I was fully dilated to 10cm and ready to push. I pushed for 16min and had my son at 4:50pm, he weighed 7lbs. 1oz. and was 19 inches long. Both my son and myself had no complications at all from being induced. I'm hoping that I will be induced with this one as well, so that way I'm already at the hospital and don't have to worry if my hubby will be working or not when I go into labor lol. I hope that this helps and good luck =0)

I was induced with Cytotec tablets. It started on the 8th June (last year) at 1015am and I was administered the tablets every 4 hours and a CTG performed afterwards. I was ready to go home, I even signed the papers as they put me in a room with another pregnant snoring lady and I had hardly slept since a week before that, and my last CTG at 8:30 pm showed that my contractions were stronger. I didn't get any tablets after that. My waters broke at 10:45 pm, the contractions were all of a sudden strong and extremely frequent, I didn't really get more than a minute's break between them, so my water birth dream went out the window. All in all, I did not take any drugs to ease the pain and she was born on 9th June at 3:06 am, so it goes by quickly, that's the advantage. Definately worth it :-) All the best, remain positive :-)

I have been induced twice. The first time it didn't take until the next day. the last time they induced me early in the morning and I had my baby in the evening.  There is nothing to be affraid of. The Dr will explain it to you.  They will give you an IV and give you petosin to start labor.  Your labor will come on gradually as if your body is doign it itself.  You will begin to feel contractions and as time goes by they will get stronger and more frequent. Some women get the shakes in labor like myself and they can give you meds for that.  Once you are dialated to about a 5 you can have an epidural if you choose and they say it's time.  The epidural procedure is quick and easy just seems scary to think they are putting a needle in your back.  My advise is to relax, take deep breaths alot the best you can and look forward to your baby arriving. It makes labor so much more easier.  If you are tense and worried you just make it harder on yourself. I have had 3 children and am pregnant with my 4th.  Good luck!
