changing dr's

Ok so I called my high risk dr and told them I wanted to change to him for full care and they said they can only do that with the request of my regular OB!!!! I thought woman have the right to see who they want. My OB here has only seen me once in my whole pregnancy and his offive won't schedule me with him until the midwife says I NEED to see him and then I still waited 2 1/2 months with appointments every 2 weeks to see him the one time I did! I am high risk and he if I were staying with him would be the only dr that could deliver me being VBAC. He is the one and only OB out of three counties here! So how do I get his office to schedual and appointment with him? THey have never gotten not one of my appointments they wrote down for me right on the day I get there! I am always with someone else and I am there at least 5 hours because they ahve me down for a differnet time and then they work me in per say. This is jsut frustrating! I thought I had it all worked out jsut to drive to the better hospital to deliver wher I can have a good birth experience now this pops up. To much  drama for my life I am telling you!

You know I never thought of his insurance just my own. I do nto have to have referrals for anything! Maybe since I was refered to is more so why they say this as apposed to me goign to him from the begining. I have an appointment with my OB on April 2nd if I get to see him. My DH is goign with me to this time so I don't end up in tears again. I think he will transfere me no problem but then I will have that weird relationship goign on if a problem does accor and I ahve to go to the closer hospital. Just no fair that they don't have good care here! I thought I had found a dr before I got pregnant but then ran into problems with her offfice as well and changed at 5 weeks along. I will just ahve to keep a positive thought on it till it is over!

Well a High Risk OB is generally considered a specialist, and just like any other specialist, he'll require a referral...you've already had your initial referral to be transferred to his care, but if your OB wants him to take over your care completely he'll probably have to write something like "referral to -high risk OB- for the rest of the pregnancy for full prenatal care" because of how the high risk OB's insurance works...most specialists have insurance that requires specific referrals for care. You may simply have to bite the bullet and go to your regular OB and tell him you want to change, because the specialist insurance is usually pretty specific...you have the right to see who you want, but a specialist is a bit different. Good luck I really hope you get to see him it sounds like he would be waaaay better for you.
