listening to cord? measuring belly?

Do you get measured at each appointment? Does anyone know what it means to listen to the umbilical cord with the same doppler that the dr. listens to the heartbeat with? I just had my 32 week apt. and he listened to the heartbeat & also "listened to the umbilical cord".  I was going to ask him what that meant (I'm assuming it's the blood flow making noise?) but got distracted asking delivery questions.  He never measured my belly so I'm wondering how does the dr. even know whether baby is growing well?? Maybe he got distracted too since we were talking about my hernia and inducing labor early. Thanks girls! :)

I don't know about the umbilical cord but I have read that a lot of doctors don't measure because its not an accurate measurement, but that they go by what an ultrasound tells them ultimately.

He didn't do an ultrasound this appointment- haven't had one since 26 weeks, so I would think they need some sort of measurement.

My OB measures and listens to the heart beat at every visit. I don't know about the umbilical cord either.

my doctor measures every appt. and listens to the heart beat also.  But as far as the umbilical cord... maybe he got distrated and said that by accident.  My doctor said that the next US is 32nd week.???

THere are only three things they can hear by dopplar, and only a good one you can hear all three! The mom's heartbeat, babies heartbeat and the placenta swooshing. I have no lcue what he meatn byt he imbilical cord unless he was listening to the placenta. The cord and it's blood flow has to be done with us and they can see blood flow going in and out with the blue and red colors.

I get measured and the doppler used at every visit. To be honest though my dr never mentions much on the measurement unless I ask. She said its not 100% accurate but they do it any how. I have never measured ahead with any pregnancy but always have bigger babies. Weird I know. Im measuring right on this time too!
