So i went to my scheduled ob appointment today and they gave me a number to call to schedule my ultrasound. Im 19 going on 20 weeks and by time i get the ultrasound ill be 21 weeks. But when i called on the phone the lady told me i was supposed to have a first trimester ultrasound. Im a first time mother and didnt know this. Now im missing out on that milestone and cant get it back. Should i find a new doctor or is this not a big deal..?

I didnt have a first trimester ultrasound either. My dr told me that he usually doesnt like giving ultra sounds until 20 weeks unless absolutely necessary. So i wouldn. Worry about that. If you want to call your dr then by allmeans call nothing wrong with asking questions! :-) i didnt have one either tho.

I wasn't supposed to have my first 1 till the 20 week ultrasound cuz I knew my lmp.  I actually called to ask for the nuchal test at 12 weeks just so I could see the little bean on the screen! I didn't really care what the results were. We just had a scan today at almost 19 weeks and found out we are having a boy!!

Your first scan should generally be around 6-8 weeks for a dating scan, then you should have had a nuchalscan at around 11-13 weeks to see if your baby may be down syndrome or have any other defects then the next scan is the 18-21 weeks which is your morphology scan that will measure everything and make sure the baby is measuring right and so forth. Generally this would be your last scan of the pregnancy unless your high risk or measuring bigger or smaller than you should be.

I'd be calling your doctor and asking why you weren't informed about the first trimester scans.

I have the ultrasound next thursday so ill definitely have to ask. I was sure about the date of my last period though cause i had one of those trying to conceive apps. So ill ask about that having influenced it too.

I wouldn't worry too much about not getting the first one.  It's usually just to confirm pregnancy and get a due date.  But I would certainly ask your doctor why you didn't have one.  It may be his/her common practice.

I knew I was pregnant but couldn't for sure say when I conceived. However I had a dating ultrasound and was 7 weeks, then at 9 weeks I freaked and wanted another one and got one. I would switch, if they missed that who knows what else they will miss.

Usually they give a first trimester ultra sound so they can determine how far along you are. Maybe you already were already positive as when you conceived?  I would all before you switch.

Do you know what the scan is for this time?
I had a scan at 14 weeks for down syndrome but I'm 34 so maybe you are younger. I would ask your Dr why he didn't tell about first trimester scan. See what he says..
