I'm 8 weeks pregnant. I just caught a terrible flu with a fever and coughing too. Will being sick hurt the baby?

Expert answer: Mary Lake Polan, ob-gyn
Early in pregnancy, a low fever probably isn't a problem, but a high fever (over 103 degrees Fahrenheit) could be lethal for the baby. Early fetal development is sensitive to changes in temperature, and if your body goes from 98.6 degrees to 103 degrees, it could cause you to have a miscarriage. Later in pregnancy, when you have a fully formed baby and it's just a question of him getting bigger, a fever isn't that much of a problem, unless it's caused by an intrauterine infection.

Editor's note: Call your caregiver if you develop a fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher during pregnancy.

I was the same last week. Had lots of garlic, onion and ginger and it worked. Hope you will feel better soon.

You'll be fine I was the same couple days ago and went to Urgent care they suggested plenty of rest ... water.. and vitamin C. Make some chicken soup as well it worked wonders on me.

And monitor your temp. If it gets too high you should probably make an appt.

Ugh. Im 8 weeks and not feeling great either. I sure hope its not the flu. Being sick wont hurt the baby, just make sure you are staying hydrated and eating when you can. It is certainly not fun. Feel better.
