so im 27 weeks and 4 days pregnant. And midwife advised that i have the gestionational diabetes test... Because last time i had sugar in my wee... Baring in mind she told me this was because i had 3 wees before this and i also had a bar of chocolate, yogurts and toast all before i finally remembered to wee... But she still wants me to take me

Thanks girls. I think its one of them things im just going to have to suck up and get on with... Wouldnt wanna risk any harm to my son... I'll make my appt tomorrow :) thanks for all the comments and advice girls :)

I just did the 3 hour test yesterday and it wasn't that bad. Yes I had to sit there for 3 hours and wait around to get poked, but I rather be on the safe side. I felt sick the whole day yesterday, but there's nothing worse than having a sick baby because I didn't get checked out. I rather find out so it can get treated. I know my mom had it (I don't want to scare you) and her doctor never had it check so when she went into labor she got really sick. My sister was fine, but my mom ended up getting organ failure. She got really swollen and couldn't even open her eyes. Another doctor later told her she had gestational diabetes and eclampsia and that why she never took care of it, but she never knew she had it. She ended up staying at the hospital for over 2 weeks. They had to do blood transfusion and doctors literally thought she wasn't going to make it. Thankfully she is here with us today and doing good!! :)

I just got my 1 hour test done and they did tell me to fast before going in. So hopefully I pass so I don't have to do the 3 hours one, fingers cross.

I believe if you refuse it they will treat you as a diabetic.  That would mean blood sugar testing daily, change in diet, etc.  IMO I'd rather have the screening and be able to eat my ice cream.

You can refuse any medical procedure, but with this one I wouldn't recommend it. Gestational diabetes is something that women sometimes have that they don't notice any symptoms, but it can have a very bad effect on the baby if it's not treated. If you don't even know you have it, that's dangerous, particularly for the baby.

yeah your midwife is telling you about the.one you have to to do after the one hour test. if you fail the first one but you should do it like babyiish said if you have it then it could be really bad for the baby

Your gonna do the 1hr glucose test first and if you don't pass that one then you have to do the 3 hr test.....
1 hr juice 50 g sugar - I don't think you have to fast..... My dr didn't tell me to fast but I didnt eat anything cuz I usually don't pass 1hr glucose tolerance test.... =( I didn't pass...

3 hr test 100 g sugar -you have to fast...I went early In the morning =) I pass
The juice was soooo sweet that I got a head ache for about 5 min... My arms all bruised ..draw blood 4 times...I pass
But you have to do it .....
Pregnancy diabetes is bad for the baby... :(

My midwife said not to eat. Im not allowed to eat from midnight the day of the test, and not allowed to drink anything otherthan clear water before and during. Also that i have to drink fizzy lucozade (i cant drink fizzy either makes me throw up even before i was pregnant) and then they keep taking my blood everyhour after that for 3 hours.. Plus the time before i drink the lucozade so thats 4 times..:(

Who told you that you cant eat i ate just before i did it it doesnt matter and you have a drink that they give you then you wait an hour and you cant eat within that hour then theu take one blood test if results come back that you do then they do another bigger test and take your blood 3 or 4 times thats if the first test says you have it though.

Whooops posted before i finished...
But yeah she tpld me she knows thats why i had sugar in my wee so why is she still asking ms to have it done??? I have to have my blood taken 3 to 4 times if i do and not eat for like 8 hours before hand (which i cant do as this makes me extrememly nauseaous and then sick..) so i was wondering can i say no??? I've so had my wer checked 2 more times since then and its been normal...

Everyone is supposed to do it hun no matter what well im in australia and its recommemded everyone does it i had it and it fine just a drink then a blood test. its best to do it i think so.
