You can give a bath the same day but there is a lot of research behind waiting at least 48 hours to give a bath. The reason why is because babies usually still have some vernix left on the skin and if you give them a bath it washes it away the vernix is very good for the babys skin as well as it helps build the immune system. The second reason to wait is when your baby goes through the birth canal they pick up bacteria and germs this is the first introduction to start a healthy immune system if you wash off that bacteria before babys body can start building immunities then theres evidence that it takes longer to build the immune system as well as some babies will get sick within the first weeks of life. Basically the birth canal actually gives your baby a microbiosystem that keeps him healthy. Theres alot of research that supports this and some hospitals have started to converting over to waiting 24 hours before giving baby bath.
They sponge bathe the baby in the hospital and you can sponge bathe the baby when you get home everyday or every two days until umbilical cord falls off. Then a full bath. Good luck
They gave my daughter a bath a few hours after she was born in the hospital. They just made sure the cord didn't go under water.
Sponge bath until the umbilical cord has fallen off and if he is circumcised that has to be healed also before you can submerge him in water. That's what I was taught in my birthing class anyways..
You can give baby a bath within hours after birth
You need to wash baby before 2 weeks and can do it the day you bring them home from the hospital, but you basically do a sponge bath because the cord can't get wet. It's still a bath but Baby isn't in water if that makes sense.
My kids got there first baths within 2 hours of being born just don't submerg the cord
You have to wait until after the umbilical cord falls off. So about 2weeks
