cake

I honestly don't know why people get their 1 year old a cake for 5 on their first bday, like honestly...a cupcake will do.
I guess I'm different

I think cupcakes are a good idea, then you can just make or buy however many you need. We bought just a sheet cake for my baby's birthday but we had a lot of family so it all got ate. But the other birthdays we did cupcakes because not as many people came. So I can understand not wanting a hugeeee cake.

Err it's just a cake. The kid will play with it more then eating it so I don't think the size matters. If you can afford to have a cake for the child and another cake for guests, I don't see how size comes in to it. I would like a big cake for my child only so they can smash it up, make a huge mess and we can get some memorable photos. Can't really do that with a little cupcake. Everyone is different :). If you don't want too much mess, and don't want a 1 year old ruining a cake so guests can't eat any, then a cupcake is a good idea.

Alot of bakeries throw in a smash cake for free or cheap when you order a cake/cupcakes from them.  One bakery in our small town gives you your childs first birthday cake for free to get you hooked on their delicious cakes!

Everyone is different. What works for some doesn't for others. Why do some moms formula feed or breastfeed? Why do some moms have a few glasses of wine while pregnant and some are strictly against? Why do some people have big birthday parties for a one year old at all, the child won't remember and if it is in fact for the child than what would be the point aside from pictures they will see when they are older? Everyone is different and sometimes it's even traditional for the child to have a big cake.

Haha I'm going to be one of those mums that makes a cake every year and when they're older they can pick out what cake they want me to make. My mum always did that for us so its the norm for me.

Some people don't like cake like my husband.
But I don't mind having a cake for people but I mean having a big cake for a 1 year old is just dumb to me
