We didn't take a lot, but the hospital we delivered at also provided us with a lot and they should give or offer a tour of the delivery and recovery rooms and you can usually see what all they have in the rooms or you can ask the nurse or person giving the tour. I took slippers and some pj's that didn't stay on because they had me in a nightgown the hospital provided. They gave me pads and all the baby diapers, if I needed formula they provided it. My husband brought his laptop and they had free wifi. I brought my pillow as comfort. For her we brought a take home outfit we agreed on, one newborn and one 0-3 months in case she was big, car seat (duh), and a blanket because it was winter when she was born so it was cold. They provided cream and wipes and let us take home whatever was left over which was a lot so that was great. They also provided a little shirt for her to wear while her cord stub healed, they didn't want anything touching it so they might not let you put a onsie on baby at the hospital. They gave us tooth paste and toothbrush but I broughr my own anyway. I took my hair brush, a change of clothes for leaving the hospital, chapstick, and my phone and phone charger to take pictures. If you need or forget anything you can always send your hubs or a family member out to grab it too. My husband had to go back and check on our dogs every morning, afternoon, and night and came back. It just depends.

There are good lists online. What I bring extra: sleeping mask (hospitals are bright and you'll want sleep), pj- because I will have a csection & good to have a long night gown dress, that you can nurse in, a maxi dress for going home -maternity outfit (you'll loose some lbs when you have the baby but not much- you'll still have a belly), instant Starbucks coffee packs,

I agree with the above list.  Biggest pads you can find! Some hospitals provide some but you will need them at home anyways.   And dont bring your best underwear as it is in not pretty!  Lip chap was a must for me! Camera and phone charger as well.

Google what to take in your bag and you'll find plenty of lists.

But I know for me my staples have been:

A few pair of underwear
Night gowns (it was too hard to get pants on)
Hair stuff or at least a few ponytail holders
Toothbrush and paste
They used to give pads but I have received a list from my hosp and it said to being a box...it will be heavy so I think I bought overnight ones
Snacks
Going home clothes (probably maternity bc you will still look a few months pregnant)
*ask for the hosp for a squirt bottle this will bring tons of relief to those very sore lady parts!!!!

For baby:

I bought baby tshirts for the hosp...they snap up and are easy to get on and off (i think they were gerber but it was like a 3 pack)

A few onsies...newborn and 0-3 months (I've had a 5 lb 12 oz baby and and 8 lb 9 oz baby so better safe than sorry)
Baby carseat
If you use formula they will give you some samples but not a whole lot.
Diapers....they do have them there but i always bring a stack.
Going home out fit...although it will be summer the baby will still need a hat and socks
Receiving blankets...some light fabric ones to snuggle him/her in...ask the nurse to help if you've never swaddled a baby

Thats all i could think of off the top of my head....good luck and dont worry if you forget stuff the hospital has most of the items but it might not be the exact kind you are used to.
