An indian friend of mine told me back home the pregnant women stay off papaya as they believe its harmful, but i've never seen it in any "not safe to eat" categories that i look at on various websites.

Never heard of this... I did see it on the forum a few weeks ago too, but I thought it was a joke!  I honestely didn't know that people believed that eating pineapple and papaya would cause harm to the baby.  But, no... I don't think that either of these foods will initiate premature conctractions.  If these foods did do those things, then our doctors and midwives would make sure they told us about it from the get go.  So, I say... keep eating those nutritious fruits! :)

I saw this on the forum once - I think it was a few weeks ago - and I freaked out b/c I was eating pineapple like it was going out of style. I was CRAVING it and eating whole pineapples! Some people say that it brings on contractions and could lead to miscarriage - but I think that is BS. I am fine and the baby is still growing and by now it is all out of my system. I looked it up online and saw this is an old wives tale from teh chinese - b/c pinaeapple has points on the fruit.

At any rate - I would not worry - otherwise our DRs would put it up there with sushi. And no one has. Besides i am fine.
