My mother had two failed epidurals and my sister now has spinal problems and chronic back pain due to a bad epidural experience. Not to mention the epidural made her whole body uncontrollable and she almost lost her baby. I will not be getting one and have discussed alternative methods for pain relief with my doctor and done much research. I will be getting pain medicine in my iv to help with the pain and minimize any problems. Best of luck to you.
My son was born last week and I had a birth plan to not use the epidural. I had done a lot of research and practices breathing techniques. Then about half way thru, around 5cm dilated, the pain was overwhelming and I asked for the epidural. The doctor said my blood pressure was up and I couldn't get it. I ended up finishing without it.
To make a long story short...you can do it if you want to. But just have a back up plan. Have a plan b and c. So that you know everything will be ok.
Good luck to you mama, safe and healthy delivery!
Its hard to say as so many women have different experiences. Best thing to do is wait until ur labor starts u might have a quick birth or a slow one once it starts you will know more and have more advice from midwife at the time. Good luck
Epidural is not harmful to the baby at all. I got one with my 1st pregnancy, and unfortunately I had a bad experience with it. It was so strong that my legs were like jello and it took a very long time to wear off. My muscles where so weak that I couldn't push my son out and the Dr had to use forceps on me. I had a headache for a month straight afterwards. I want to avoid getting one this time, but I'm trying not to exclude it completely because you never know what will happen when hard labor starts.
But definitely do your own research and choose what you think is best for you and babe. However, anytime you research some thing online you're obviously gonna get a lot of negative stuff, so talk to your doctor about it as well.
I loved my epidural!! I didn't have any negative side effects from it whatsoever, and I honestly didn't feel a thing when it came to labor other than the pressure of pushing. The whole experience of labor and delivery was very relaxing and enjoyable and I owe it all to the epidural. I would recommend it to anyone. :-)
