Baby Name Question!!!!!

My Husband and I are Christian and we are expecting a baby in February.  We both like the name Jezebel but she is portrayed very bad in the Bible,  has anyone heard the name Jezebel and thought badly? I know some people use the term "oh dont be such a Jezebel " but i LOVE the name. What if it was spelt different like Jezabelle or something would that make a difference!?!

Thanks ladies!!!!

We had the same issue! I love that name too, but my husband refuses if we have a girl to name her that. We thought of other cute ones like Gabrielle, or Isabelle

Naturally it's your choice but since you're asking for opinions ill weigh in.
If she will be raised in a faith based community then I think the name could embarass her later on. Also, if you guys are a part of a faith based community it most likely would be frowned upon. I could see people wondering "why would her parents do that to her... etc"
I think it's a beautiful name.
I have a degree in Theology and when I read your question and saw the name my first thought was, "oh my." Mainly because of the same reasons you brought up in your question.
Like I said, and others have said, its your choice. Honestly I don't think the spelling really matters.
Its an old question.."whats in a name?"
Good luck:)

Honestly, I had no idea it was the name of a prostitute. So there's that. I know a Judas, an adolfo etc. It's your kid, do what you want chica :)

I had the same name picked until everyone talked out of it for the same reasons :(  A name sounding kinda close to that is Isabelle or Isabella!

The issue with Jezebel wasn't her strength or independence, she did evil things like killing prophets of God, etc. With that said, your child may not be automatically evil just because of a name however will you name your child Judas, or Lucifer just because you like the name? I personally won't subject my child to being judged even before she says a word. Just my opinion

I think you should name your baby whatever name you like. Your baby isn't going to be "evil" because of their name.. A name doesn't define a person. If you raise your child right, they shouldn't have any issues.

I think it's a gorgeous name. Pretty much every name is going to have a negative connotation to someone. Name your kid what you want :)

I actually like the name Jezebel. I don't think of anything negative when I hear that name. She was a strong and independent woman, which seemed to be frowned upon during biblical times. Also if you have Christian friends that question your name choice you can remind them that Jesus spent time with Mary Magdalene who was thought to be a prostitute. So should we question any girl named Mary? What ever you decide to name your little angel just make sure to tell her how special her name is. And that she makes that name special also. Best wishes!

I think you are all very wise to steer away from names that have negative connotations.

When you've got some extra time,  Google studies on names.  Being named something with a negative connotation really does have an affect on how the person perceives themselves,  and the world perceives them.

A name that's negative is a problem.  A name that's neutral is a gift - a child can form their own personality without being burdened by the name.

I never will understand why parents name their kids names like Stormy.  Really,  Stormy?

I'm expecting my second son, our first son's name is Mateo(Mathew in english) which we also got from the bible, our second is going to be name Damian, which I was telling my husband that if I recall right is the name of that evil little boy from the movie The Omen haha. I also wouldn't like for someone to think of my son as someone evil like the boy in the movie, but I'm not changing his name because of it. That doesn't they will be the same or do the same things.

Maybe Jessabelle? I agree, I really don't like Jezebel due to the bible stories plus its a pretty extreme feminist website (like not just about women's rights, but they seem to actually hate men)... It is pretty but yeah, I wouldn't be able to get past the connotations!

It's pretty but honestly I think of a prostitute or something every time I hear it. I always encourage people to name their baby whatever they want, just know that it doesn't have the best image attached, like you said.
