Beauty and Labor

So.. I definitely want to wear make up and have my hair nicely up in delivery so I won't look completely horrid for my first pictures. Does anyone have experience with this?

Well, I think it's great if the makeup stays on and the hair stays in place.

To me,  when I read posts like this I tend to feel anxiety in the poster.  An anxiety that they look great always,  that they don't have a little bit of poop;  come out during labor,  please when wil these stretch marks fade,  etc.

It may be that women who "dress and put on make up" for labor do it out of a sense of joy but it often  seems to come from a place of anxiety - which almost always clogs the labor process.  Women who approach labor thinking I really don't care to look my best and who knows what all will happen,  let's just deliver a healthy baby tend to have an easier time of it.

Best wishes.   I just hope that those who dress and primp out of a sense of anxiety can let that go for the birth process.

I don't do make in general but I have a friend who did hers for labour and she looked great afterwards I would say use waterproof makeup. Most hair styles won't make it though

With my first I put my makeup on as soon as I realized my contractions were regular. I just did my hair in a ponytail knowing that I would want that out of the way for labor. Turns out, my makeup hung in there (I had all water proof) and my first pictures looked amazing! Didn't look a mess or anything!

Im a ftm, and I dont care how I look for labour, you dont have to doll yourself up to meet your baby and even if you do take pictures you'll treassure them anyway because they be the first ones you took of you baby. Its not all about appearance, and im sure you have to work to lose baby weight it dont just go, noones body works like that. And as for 5 inch heels I couldn't walk in that high heels before I got pregnant ahaa but everyone is different. And for the poster im sure you'll look fine afterwards and im sure you'll be concentrating more on your baby once he or she is born to even care what you look like

Some women get pretty to workout. I love how mothers say "you wont have time or energy to look good after the baby comes" or "its hard to lose the baby weight".  The outcome depends on the individual.  Im 7 months pregnant and i still wear 5inch high heels and pretty dresses. I will probaby wear heels to L&D.  Just because your pregnant or ftm doesn't mean you cant look good for yourself... especially during labor.

Seems to be only first-time mothers who ask questions about makeup, hair, little outfits to hide their privates when in labor (I sure remember how mad one gal got when everyone assured her that she wouldn't be wearing a cute little birthing skirt for very long in the water birth that she was planning).  Even if you think everyone is being unsympathetic about this, please listen to the jist of it.  What's coming is like working out, and it can be for one hour and it can be for over a full day.

Do your best to create a durable, simple look that you can wear for hours while you are doing painful and sweat-inducing things. If that is waterproof mascara and lip balm and your hair up, fine.  You won't be able to keep anything more elaborate looking good.

My labor was 27 hours and ended with a c-section, no hairdo would have made it through.  I just washed it afterwards.  Nothing hid the broken blood vessel in my eye from the first photos, though.  I looked like Vampira.  And guess what, you will be happy with the whole thing.

This question brought me back 9 years to when I had my first. I was 18, still living with my mom. I woke up and just knew I was in labor, so I hurried up and got in the shower to try and get ready (I have naturally curly hair so it looks like a hot mess when I wake up after rolling around everywhere). I planned on putting makeup on too. Well, I only made it back to my bed in my towel before I laid down and called my mom to come downstairs and help me get dressed because the contractions were too intense lol! So yeah,  if I had been able to do my hair and makeup i would have looked just fine for pics when he was born because he arrived 2 hours after I got to the hospital. But instead I just looked yucky lol but I still love our first picture together regardless of how terrible I looked.
With my second, I gave up on making my hair look nice and just pulled it up into a high ponytail, covered up my dark eye circles and put some mascara on before we left the house. That didn't take too much time and it was natural enough that I didnt look like I got hit me with a semitruck lol

I wouldn't do a full face. Maybe just some waterproof eye makeup. Im getting my eyelashes done the week of so I get the glam look with no makeup

After your baby is born,  you might want to take time to do your hair and makeup for pictures.  That can be done in the hours after you've given birth.

Don't plan on doing your hair and make up before you go into labor.

Omg after 29 hours I looked a wreck and didn't even care. I was sweating and puking so much. I had braided my hair but ended up with it in a high messy bun and delivered completely naked with the ACTUAL on high and about 4 fans pointed on me. I don't think I have one picture of me and baby right afterward but have some of us the next day and even then I don't look great in them.

Yeah, after 20 hours of labor I can tell you that makeup and a hair style are no longer there. I was in and out of the shower, sweating, honestly you won't care. I agree with pp, if you want pretty pictures wait till the next day to shower and do them up.

My doc had nurses take off all my make IP & nail polish for my 1st. At that moment no one really cares what you look like anyhow all the focus is on baby. I would wait til the day after to take pretty pictures cause you will tired.but if you want pics tight away I say go for it! :)

Haha. Oh honey you will look worse if you do that. You sweat so much that your makeup will be a mess and your hair will be all over the place. Wash your hair before, and go make up free. Have a hair wrap for sure!!
