Do you feel like a number?

I am now 30 weeks after TTC for 5 yrs, YEAH! But I have felt like a number during my pregnancy. I have not had the easiest pregnancy (hemrroids, migraines, constipation, nerve issues, heartburn, severe vomiting everyday, fatigue, "mom brain", weight loss, ....) but I have an HMO that allows me to see a group of doctors. I feel like when I see these doctors they treat me and my issues like another cog in the machine.

Me: Doctor I am 20 weeks and I throw up 7 times a day and your scale says I lost a few pounds.

Doctor: Try drinking some ginger ale and saltines.

It wasn't until my last appointment (wk 30) that I barely missed throwing up on the doctor that they finally wanted to run tests to check my organs.

I was given the name of an OTC drug to take for my vomiting. FF a few hours later Ihave my husband rush me to the hospital because I started bleeding and feared miscarriage.

Doctor: Okay what brings you in?

Me: I am bleeding down there. Not enough to fill a pad, but it's bright red and my honeypot hurts.

Doctor: OK let's monitor baby's heartbeat and check your honeypot. ::::After checking using a speculum with no light:::: Well everything looks fine, it may have been your organs rubbing together down there but just in case let's draw blood and give you a shot.

Now I am the home remedy queen, but when I go to the doctor's office I often leave feeling more confused and distrustful that today's doctors know anything least of all bedside manner. I wonder am I the only one who feels this way?

There are multiple doctors in the Practice I visit. My usual dr. And the one I always see besides the visits where I had to "meet" the other drs, is amazing. Great bedside manner, funny, and super caring, people come to the practice feom all over juat for him. Now the other drs are not nearly as friendly, and are much quicker to hush me and get out the door. He is very old, like seriously almost 80, maybe its his yrs that set him apart feom other drs at the office, but when he retires, I will probably be seeking a mew practice

My obstetrician has absolutely no bedside manner and when I ask him questions he cuts me off mid sentence and said 'we will get to that in a minute' and always makes me feel a bit like I'm an inconvenience to him. It's my first pregnancy and I'm in no way a hypochondriac but I do have the odd question here and there because this is all new to me. My husband says stuff him ask as many questions as u like and don't be afraid of him coz we are paying him enough! But I know how you feel, it's a hard situation to be in. On the up side he is the best OB in the state and knows his stuff so I will just have to rely on the midwives for emotional support I guess, that would be my suggestion to you, find a good midwife to help you and answer your questions. They are usually lovely and very experienced at what they do. Goodluck:)
