I got a positive pregnancy test. How long should i wait to announce?

Hi, I took a pregnancy test yesterday because I had one symptom that led me to think I was prego... sore tender breasts... it turned out positive... but I hope it is not a false positive... I'm supposed to start my period today... I'm hoping it doesn't come... I'm excited and want to share with family, but idk if I should wait... and how long should i wait...

The only person my boyfriend and i told right away was my mom and she came to the confirmation appointment with us because she was visiting from out of state so she wouldn't be a part of much of the pregnancy other than that. I told close family and friends (mostly coworkers) after we confirmed with our doctor and then announced to everyone else around 11 weeks, because I was too excited to wait for 12 weeks! It's up to you but most women prefer to wait (especially with their first) because the chance of miscarriage drops so much after 12 weeks. (:
Congrats girl! (:

We told our parents right away, told my daughter (12) around 7 weeks and then announced to everyone else and Facebook after our first ultrasound at about 8 or 9 weeks. Doc said at that point that the chance of miscarriage had dropped so we shared the exciting news!

It is extremely rare to get a false positive (as in practically impossible) in order for a pregnancy test to read positive your body has to produce the hormone hcg. The body only produces this hormone when your egg has been fertilised and embedded in to your womb. Hcg starts to produce as the embryo splits and multiplies. The only possibility where you would get a 'false positive' is if for some reason the embryo hasn't stuck to your womb. So the fact is,  you were pregnant, but the pregnancy was not viable as you had in a sense an early miscarriage. So,  when to tell family and friends, entirely your call.  I told my mum and husband  as soon as I found out.  If something happened and I lost the baby then at least I had the support of those closest to me.

You should go to your doctor and confirm it with a blood test and see how far along you are before you start telling people.
When it comes to telling people, it's totally up to you. Typically a lot of women wait until they are 12 weeks pregnant to announce their news.
I hope that helps you!
