Newborn & secondhand smoke?

My son is 2 weeks old today. Recently my fiances grandmother had a heart attack and they cannot do anything for her because of age and health. She lives 4 hours away and before something happens to her, we want her to meet her  great grandson. My fiances family is wanting to visit her this weekend for mothers day and to stay a few nights. I really want my son to meet her, but he is only 2 weeks old, so I'm not sure about traveling just yet. Also, his grandmother smokes in her home and the odor is very strong for me, I couldn't imagine how he would feel being around it. I'm very conflicted about what to do. I don't want him exposed to cigarette smoke for a minute, let alone an entire weekend. Advice please!

The smog in the air is worse than third hand smoke.  Your baby will be fine.  If ur not comfortable you should look up hotels.  Shes on her deathbed, denying her to see her great grand baby would be cruel.  Put ursrlf in her shoes.

I would never put my child near someone who smokes, being pregnant I avoid smokers. I have no shame to cover up when walking by a smoker , it's not good for me or my baby. Personally I would miss this trip and keep your baby safe .

I would pass on this trip.  Too soon.

I understand the seriousness of the grandmother but would wait until baby has had their first round of shots (if thats what you choose to do) before doing any type of traveling. As to the smoking, even if they don't smoke while you are there, the surroundings may be saturated with the second hand smoke & get into baby's little lungs. As badly as your husband wants to visit, I think it would be good to pass.

Tell your husband. Absolutely.  I will not allow my daughter in her grandmothers house because she smokes in her home. It's serious and if you feel that way you should make it very clear.
