Ob gyn or midwife

I found out i'm pregnant with my 2 child i should be about about 6 weeks along, but I don't have medical insurance and I can't apply for medicaid so I've been trying to decide between a midwife or a ob gyn I've heard midwife'stake care of everything for you from pre-natal ro post-partum, but if there is ever an emergency with the childbirth are they prepared for it??

We had a homebirth with baby #2. They are trained to know when to transfer to the hospital if needed, but they are well versed and will try many different things to avoid if possible. We would have had baby #3 at home if my water hadn't spontaneously broken 6 1/2 weeks early,  and would try again in a heart beat. SO much better experience than baby #1 at the hospital.

This is a really personal choice and there is no right or wrong.  For me, I wanted someone that had an MD behind their name and had been through the rigors of medical school and residency monitoring my pregnancy and birth.  Doctors allow women to forgo epidurals but it sure is nice to know you can have it if you need it during labor.  Labor can be much different than we predict. We make a plan and then alter if needed to get the best care in my opinion.  But my doctor allowed me to make decisions on that.  good luck

Thank you ladies, you see for my first pregnancy I had pre-eclampsia so i'm a bit worried that it could happen again or even develop even though some statistics are completely against that. I would love to have a natural birth, and knowing that mid-wives are prepared for those type of cases eases my mind. I might go for a midwife this time around.

I have only used obgyn's as i have had high risk pregnancies but have heard from my other mommy friends that have used midwives that even if you use midwives that an obgyn will step in if necessary.  I heard that they work closely together if any issues arise. Hope this helps.

Because i wanted a natural birth with my 2nd child my OB had the hospital midwife on staff be there for the delivery. Many are very skilled and capable of caring all throughout the pregnancy and she helped talk me through the delivery. I loved having her there especially since midwives don't always run to medications for everything.
