Okay to lose weight?

I'm 15 weeks, I was overweight before finding out I was pregnant and was trying to lose at a steady pace (babe was a surprise). Weight I'm "supposed" to be is 120 but I'm 170, lose and gain roller coaster. . I'm wondering if it's okay to lose weight while prego? I'd do exercise and not starve myself of course. Suggestions on foods? Basically put I plan on exercising and want to eat better and so is losing weight bad?

Im in a similar situation. Ive been keeping track of my calories during my pregnancy.  Its very easy for me to get out of control and eat way more than i think i am. I eat 1700-1800 cals a day and that is plenty due to my current weight. My baby is perfect and my Dr is on board with it. Im not trying to lose weight but i am trying to make healthy choices and stay within my calorie goal.

Eating healthy and exercising at your own pace should keep you still loosing weight since your already overweight, just continue to do whatever you were doing but make sure not to over do it as you are pregnant but no harm at all in staying healthy and loosing a few kilo/pounds as long as your eating well and not missing meals you should be all good. If you do loose weight and exercising e your recovery time will most likely be less since you've been healthy and active throughout your pregnancy. I've lost weight during my pregnancy and it's not an issue at all my midwife was the one who actually encouraged me to because your health benefits baby aswell :) good luck!

Side note: I have asked my doctor, due to my weight I have back pain and I'll be going to physical therapy. I'm only asking others due to the fact that this is a new dr and says it's fine but my ob only says I need to gain weight with pregnancy. I'm worried that if I do exercise and lose weight that it won't be good for the babe, I can't afford to see different doctors for their opinion and so I am trying to see what others have been told or experienced.

I would suggest talking to your doctor, but my sister in law was extremly overweight and lost 70+ lbs during her pregnancy and her doctor monitored it and her and my niece are doing great.

It's fine just don't go crazy.  Make sure you are eating WELL and taking your prenatal vitamins. Do not start any new exercises that you are not used to. You do NOT have to eat for two. I'm 12 weeks with my second and I haven't gained a pound yet and trust me I have lots to spare. My first pregnancy I only gained 10lbs overall. You are not causing harm ifyou have the weight to lose as long as you are getting the proper nutrition.

Your doctor is the only one who should be answering this question.  Taking medical advise from people on a forum can be dangerous.

It's not recommended to lose weight. But, you can definitely excerise and eat healthy to keep your weight steady. But, you will gain, it just comes along with pregnancy.
