If you've never had one then it's very important. You could have an std or cancerous cells so getting checked early in pregnancy is a must. It's also to make sure your cervix is closed.
Hi there. It's pretty important. And honestly, it is not that big of a deal. You will be placed on a table and legs in stirrups. Then you look at the ceiling and the doctor inserts a device to open you up which takes about 2 seconds. Then they swab you and you are done, device out. It literally takes a couple of minutes. It's not very uncomfortable. Having your cervix checked during pregnancy is 10 times worse than a pap smear. :) Try not to worry. good luck sweetie
Are you scared because it may hurt? Pap smears are not painful just uncomfortable but very quick. Getting one is very important not only for you but for the health of your baby. You will do great!
I think its standard. Why are you scared? Ive gotten one every year since i turned 16. It is 5 minutes of awkwardness. Its kind of embarrassing but your dr has seen it all! They check for stds and other bacterial infections and make sure everything looks normal. They will be seeing more when you deliver :)
I has to have one when I found out as well, everything came back normal :) it's just uncomfortable for a few minutes.
It is important but nothing to be afraid of. Let your Dr know this will be your first one so he or she can be a little extra gentle. It doesn't hurt, just very uncomfortable. Focus on relaxing your vaginal muscles. Tension leads to resistance and can make it feel more uncomfortable. My first time, the Dr told me to focus on letting my knees fall away from eachother (spread apart) and she asked me all kinds of questions and held a conversation with me to distract from the discomfort. If possible, you may want to bring a trusted friend or family member to chat with during your exam.
Thank you all for your answers !(: I'll be getting one asap
