Screening for Down syndrome came back positive

Hi there,
This is my first time posting. I'm not sure if I am doing it right. Just looking for any advice. At my 12w5d scan my results came back saying that I have a 1:250 chance of having a baby born with Down syndrome. They said my u/s was perfect and the nasal bone was detected. As well as the nuchal fold was 1.4mm. But something in my blood was elevated. I am sick to my stomach right now. And that makes me feel guilty on top of it. I have an amino booked for sept 27. As well they did some extra screening with blood work I will get back in 7 days. Does anyone have any experiences similar?

My friends baby tested positive at the 12 week scan, but came back negative the second time. Her baby was born and does not have down syndrome. So it's never completely accurate. Try not to worry too much yet. I know it's scary but no matter what you will love that baby just the same I promise you. My aunt is a special education teacher and I was raised around many many kids and adults with down syndrome. They are the most loving and beautiful hearted people on this earth. I'm not saying your baby has down syndrome but it will be okay no matter what the outcome. Please keep us posted <3

So my quad screening came back positive with chances being 1:213. I had a more informative blood test done and it came back negative at 1:10,000. I ended up having an amnio but not by choice. I went into preterm labor due to too much amniotic fluid. They had to draw 2 liters of fluid out of my uterus. While they were at it, they sent off some fluid for testing. When FISH results came back, they were negative for all trisomy chromosomes. They tried to get me to do an amnio a long time ago to check because of kidney dilation but I refused because of the risk of miscarriage. If you are sure you want an amnio for answers I would wait until the baby would survive if he/she didn't tolerate the amnio. First trimester/early 2nd trimester amnios are just scary. Good luck hun. And don't feel guilty. You do have to find a peace about the way you feel though. Pray about it, get others to pray for you and your baby. Power of prayer is remarkable.

I tested positive with all three of my pregnancies and it was a 1% chance with my results. I had the option of doing an Amniocentesis also but chose not to as you can loose your baby. Now there is a blood test instead of doing the amniocentesis and it's much safer with the same results. None of my kids have down syndrome. My Dr said it must be something that my placenta does. I also chose not to do the amniocentesis because if I have a child with down syndrome it's not the end of the world to me, it's still my child. Also it's nothing that I did or you did to cause it. Hope this helps. & I hope you enjoy the rest of your pregnancy. ♡

Hey everyone!! Thank you all so much for your responses and kind words. Just wanted to up date. I had the blood work done. The panorama it's relatively new. It came back that my risk is now 1:10,000. And my baby is a boy!!! Which is so amazing as I have a 10 month old girl right now :):)

Honestly, I would avoid those tests. 9/10 times they are wrong and cause so much undue stress on the parents. I don't know why they even recommend the test that early because of its high inaccuracy.

I have to agree with you. When the quad screen came back positive, I did my research and found that more often than not, they are wrong, which like you said, cause worrying and stress that isn't needed.

With my first daughter I had to get additional testing for downs due to an abnormality on the ultrasound and everything came back perfectly normal, we also have friends that have a downs syndrome baby and although it was hard, they love that little girl all the same! I will keep you and your little one in my prayers but don't stress too much!
