Wine in third trimester??

So I know that there are lots of New studies that show that having one glass of wine a night in the third trimester is okay for baby and can actually be beneficial in certain ways. Supposedly it is good for mom bc it helps with aches and pains and sleep and whatnot, but not to exceed that glass a night. And I even read a study saying that the antioxidants in wine can be good for baby, but once again as long as you dont exceed that one glass. My bf actually bought me a bottle of wine since we read the stuff together and he thinks it will help me sleep and with my back pain and just to relax me a little at night, but I'm still pretty leery of the idea and not sure if I should even have that one glass. Has anyone else read these studies and what do you think about this new concept? I plan to ask my doctor as well, but just wanted to see what everyone on here thought about that.

I'm a nurse you can not get in trouble for drinking while pregnant even if it's excessive and your baby had fetal alcohol syndrome stil not any legal repercussions while it may be a moral debate in question for woman who use excessively....it's okay to use in moderation but, if your not comfortable don't do it. There are women who abuse many drugs while pregnant and as long as the child doesn't have any in it's system when born there is nothing cps can do about it, not really fair for the baby but i see it every day!

More than likely I'm gonna save the bottle until after I have my baby, but like I said I just wanted a little input on the matter.

Thanks ladies for all the input. Its not like I'm craving it or can't hold out, I was just curious to see what everyone's thoughts on it were. My bf sees how much I struggle at night to relax and get comfortable, so that's why he bought me the wine since we had come across and read the articles about it together and he thought it would help, but the idea of drinking while pregnant is definitely a little unsettling to me so I just wanted to hear what everyone thought on the matter.

My cousin is a HUGE wine drinker and a high risk ob gyn. She indulged in a glass or 2 here and there during her pregnancy last summer. She had a perfectly healthy beautiful baby girl. She told me to drink a glass here and there to relax since I've had a hard pregnancy.  I didn't feel comfortable, and then last week I was really having a hard day and could not relax at all. I had half a glass of the most incredible red wine. I felt great afterwards. It did the trick and I don't plan on having another until he's here.

I had a great (and expensive lol) glass of wine at rhis nice restaurant yesterday and I had gotten it at the bar and my table was finally ready so I had to walk through the whole restaurant with it.  And it kills me how many dirty looks I got from stupid nosy people! Lol. I am at the end of my 2nd trimester. But i asked and its ok for me to have wine. I dont drink a lot just here and there and yes it makes me relax before bed.  And I sleep better. Yes if you go overboard it could be an issue but here and there it should be ok. I think the total yoy sjould have is 4 oz 3 times a week max!
Dont listen to judgemental people its your baby and your body. If wine was so bad then civilized countries in europe wouldnt do it!

You're in the third trimester. You've gone countless weeks without drinking so why do it now? I don't understand women sometimes and their lack of control. If it's even a small chance or possibility of hurting your kid - why take the chance?  Hold out another few weeks. Seriously this shouldn't even be a question.

I would say a glass a night is too much a small glass once or twice would be ok if u wanted it throughout the trimester but a glass a night seems a lot to me

I know it's hard I love wine but think it's best to wait there was a new study in the UK recently that said one glass will stop the baby moving for a minimum of 2 hours

would you give your 1 year old alcohol? or your 6month old alcohol? why then would it make sense to "give" your developing baby alcohol? Unless you yourself NEED alcohol to relax and unwind from a stressful day... in which case maybe the wine along with its antioxidants benefits by relaxing you and potentially lowering your cortisol levels might outweigh the risk.... maaaaaybe? if you're looking for antioxidants there are better sources. if you need something for your back and sleep try a magnesium formulation with sourcherry and lactium. :) this would be my suggest over a glass of wine.

Yes you absolutely  can get in trouble for drinking while pregnant if your Dr knows or if you write it on you medical records then you can be reported to CPS. It has happened before and the repurcussions  were extreme for the woman and I believe totally outrageous. Regardless I wouldn't put it on record. Not a good idea. I'm sure drinking a small amount of red wine in okay but  that's not necessarily  common knowledge especially according to beaurocrats  and the nanny state our government loves to roll out against the general public from time to time.

No, you cannot get in trouble with cps or the "law" dont listen to ignorance. Drinking while pregnant is not even illegal. You CAN have a glass of wine during the third trimester. Your baby is developed and mostly just gaining body fat in your last weeks. Some mother's who who shoot for a non medicated birth will even drink a glass or two in the delivery room to help relax (my doula and doctors told me about this). A glass of wine will not harm your baby.

I say just don't. The brain IS still developing for one thing and there are no studies proving how much or how little alcohol it takes to effect the baby. I've had family members say it's OK and may even help with things like blood circulation and what not but it just goes against my beliefs on the subject. But definitely talk to your Dr. See what he says. I've even thought about asking my Dr just see where he stands on it but I didn't want him to think I was drinking or wanted to lol.

Yes, I've read the same data. Several different articles. I haven't asked my dr either. When I went and got a massage last week my massage therapist said her midwife told her the same thing, one glass a day was okay. I'm still unsure myself. I had a friend who lived overseas and she said the women/people in Europe are more excepting of it. So, talk to your doctor but a few glasses in the third trimester  will not have the baby being born with fetal alcohol syndrome. Also the most critical part of the fetal development is in the first trimester. I'm still on the fence but a glass sure sounds nice. But I don't think I will have one.

Look, you don't even need to read a study, it's basic common sense.  Anything in moderation and not over axcesive is ok.  By third trimester your baby is a good way developed and all major organs and brain are at this point developed.  So having a glass here and there is not going to hinder its development or have it be born with the fetal alcohol syndrome.  I'm on my third pregnancy.  Have endulged in a glass here and there with all my kids without a problem.

I've heard it is alright. But I would blame myself so much if there was anything wrong with my son. I am choosing to just hold out.

And no, I have not opened that bottle yet bc I want to speak with my doctor first, and also wanted to see what everyone on here had to say about it first.
