Work issues

Hi, I currently work at Coles only 1 or 2, 4 hour shifts a week max. I am 16 weeks pregnant and ever since about 3 weeks pregnant I have had the most terrible morning sickness. My question is can you loose your job because of morning sickness? I have called in sick probably more times than not but this is something I can't help and vomiting every half an hour or so I'd be useless at work anyway... I can tell they are starting to get annoyed with me, has this happened to anyone? Or is it some kind of discrimination if they did fire me?? Thanks xx

I have been in my job for 6 years and have a 2 year old who I was sick aswell throughout with but no where near this bad, they are aware that I am sick because e of the pregnancy doctor has given me maxalon but makes me feel worse than when I don't take it also got prescribed zofran but I can't afford to pay $15-$20 per tablet :( I'm a member of the union so I'd have them to back me up. No one has directly said anything to me about it I can just feel everyone is getting sick and tired of it but it's something I can't help and I love working it gets me out of the house but at the moment it's just more stress on me than ever before. I feel useless but it's not on purpose and I'd like to not be so sick but I guess I'm just one of the unlucky ones.  Thanks for all your advice gives me abit of peace of mind :)

They can't fire you just for being pregnant, but they can fire you for missing too many shifts. I had the same issue, I had horrible sickness everyday until I begged my Dr to give me Zofran when I was 28 weeks, I told him he couldn't get paid if I couldn't work but I haven't missed a day since I started taking it!! Ask your Dr about Zofran, it works miracles lol

If they do saying something explain to them what's going on! Go to your so doctor though and explain how you feel she can prescribe you something. . Ginger ale helps so does crackers. I never feel like going to work either but once I get moving usually I am ok if you continue this throughout your pregnancy I wouldn't work anymore unless you really had to

My pregnancy was 'terribly inconvenient' for one of my managers as well. He couldn't fire me but they did have a policy that you had to provide a medical certificate to prove you were unfit for work if it was more then 2 shifts off or something. Anyway, I just stood my ground whenni was too sick to work but when I was feeling better tried to be as flexible as possible. I hope things work out for you!

Honestly they can fire you for calling out sick consistently, because you are not performing your job duties with reasonable accommodations for your pregnancy. Now to do that of course you need to be documented and have action against you, of course based on your state. If you have been there over a year you can be covered under FMLA but that doesn't really account for calling out sick all the time. You can try to talk to your Dr and see if he can write you a note for work asking them to excuse your sickness but honestly if you want to keep your job the best thing to do is all your Dr for medicine to help you with your morning sickness so you don't have to call out.

I don't see how they can fire you unless they have some policy about how many times you can call in sick but even then you can't help it so I wouldn't think they could do anything
