am i in labor or not?!

So I am 39 weeks as of today. I have been losing my mucus plug little by little the passed 3 days but I started having blood in it yesterday. Yesterday afternoon I started feeling very crampy from my lower back and belly, exactly like mesntrual cramping. At about 10pm I started having extremely painful contractions that lasted all night. I finally got up at about 5:30am and called l&d the woman said I had to just wait it out until my water broke. I put on a pad because my "mucus plug" went from mucus with blood to liquid with blood and I soaked the pad in about an hour. But I'm not sure if my water Has broken? My contractions are still going STRONG and are about 3-4 minutes apart now. Not sure what I should do next because my mom keeps telling me to wait it out longer at home. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry you were told that. Not everyones water breaks befire they go into active labor. Many women have to have their water broken. Usually blood with the mucus is bloody show and an inclination that labor cones about 24 hours later. At 3-4 min apart, if it were me I would go in and at least have them to check how dilated you are. My sis in law when she is in labor (and had 4 kids) her contractions weren't bad at all. Mine on the other hand are horrible.  Listen to your body. You'll know.

I would still go in and get checked.  Labor is one of those things where everyone is different this being your first doesn't necessarily mean it will be slow and simple.  Better safe then sorry.

I would say you definitely have a baby coming but the more you can tolerate on your own is okay. If you go in and they hook you up to monitors it can slow labor if you're not moving and changing position. I would go if bleeding increases or you leak as you walk. The baby's head gets low so you don't always have a big gush

And my last pregnancy my contractuons were 2-3 minutes apart and lasted only 30-45 seconds i was told not to come in until they lasted 90 seconds. I coupd still walk and talk but theybwere very painful. I went in anyways because i knew it was time. I was 5cm when i went in and my contractions stayed the same i had my son 2 hours later. There is no harm in going and checking.

I would still go in. If your contractions are only 3-4 minutes apart then that's active labor. It's better than having the baby at home or on the way! Good luck!!

I called and was told that everything is normal and I shouldn't go in until my contractions are so strong that I can't talk or even move. The blood is very little from losing my mucus plug, so I'm not worried about that. It's just the pain and my lack of knowledge that leaves me unsure what to do :( I guess I just have to wait it out with this pain.

Ok, when I'm precedent
Pregnant and I see blood I go in.  Your placenta could be detached and causing bleeding or something equally bad.  If you are worried or scared, it doesn't hurt to go in and get monitored to make sure everything is ok.  Good luck.
