boost milk supply?

Does anyone know what I can do or eat to make my boobs produce more milk? I had my baby 4 weeks ago and I'm really trying to breastfeed. But my boobs are only producing 3-5ozs and my baby needs more milk than that so her pediatrician is making me supplement with formula and I really don't want her on formula. So any mom's have ideas for me to try?

I breastfed for 2 years and my diet was normal but I drank at least a gallon of water a day. So I would say just make sure you're getting plenty of water (:
also if you're pumping I found I would only be able to pump a little but but my baby got what she needed. So I wouldn't really compare what you're pumping to what the baby is actually getting.

Water mainly. I drank about a gallon a day. But I've heard fenugreek can help. You can get it at vitamin stores.

As much as it ***** to say it, sometimes you just can't make your supply increase. Not saying don't try just understand sometimes you can try everything and it not work.

Pump right after you feed. And feed often. It's a supply and demand type system so more demand should build supply. Works most the time.

Honest to god, skin to skin contact works. Just lay in bed with baby, both nude (you topless).

Fenugreek is known for helping mothers milk come in, also a good yeasty beer won't hurt. It's often recommend as a nutritional supplement during breastfeeding. Good luck!!!

Putting the baby to breast as much as possible is one of the best ways. When you supplement it lowers your milk supply and shouldnt be advised. If your baby is wetting/dirtying enough diapers a day, and not losong weight - don't worry just keep doing what you're doing - most of the time your body will do what it is supposed to as long as you don't bottlefeed too much

Water drink lots of it and a balanced diet. Beer dehydrates you so i wouldnt recommend that, also be careful with fenugreek, i tried it and it upset my sons tummy :(

The supplement fenugreek wad recommended to me with baby #1 for boosting supply, as well as cluster feeding. Basically every hour or two, trying to breastfeed baby or pump. They say take a weekend and just snuggle with baby, rest, drink water and feed baby or pump as often as possible and the supply should increase. I do know that when you start supplementing with formula your supply goes down anyways. But if formula ends up being the result that's just fine too, as long as baby is healthy.

You might see if you can find a La Leche League meeting in your area that you can make, I've heard it's a great place to get support and good, trusted advice. Good luck!

Anything with brewer's yeast in it! Also, fenugreek, blessed thistle, and mother's milk tea.
