crying in womb. A short story recalling my ultrasound today.

My heart broke a little today. :(

I went to a routine prenatal ultrasound today. Everything was going smoothly until the sonographer asked me to empty my bladder so the baby has more room to move to get a good shot of her spine. I did and when I came back my baby was still snuggled into my side resting. The sonographer, a little frustrated at this point in time, asked me to turn towards her so she can see better using the area between my side and back. Now usually when I sleep it is always on my left side. Well, the sonographer needed me to lay on my right. I follow along, eager to see my baby's full body in the womb. As I watched the screen, to my surprise I see my baby produce what looked like a yawn. So it seemed :( Until she continued to open and close her mouth, flail her tiny hand and move her head slightly up and down. The sonographer was as shocked as I was. I was told my baby was crying. My baby was crying in the womb and there was nothing I can do to soothe her... I almost cried as well.

The sonographer happened to record that moment on the dvd they hand out with the pictures. 6 heart breaking seconds I will have forever. You can imagine how I must feel. :(

Dont feel bad, the same thing happened to me and the tech said its normal, its more of a practice cry, they are not hurt in any way, your baby feels your snuggles, your heartbeat, your voice, even your digesting sounds sooth your baby, dont be sad, you know how your baby swallows amniotic fluid? You dont feel bad because it seems like your baby is hungry, well same with the crying =)

Wow?! I have never heard of that before. I can't imagine how it must have made you feel. I'm not sure what I would have done if I saw that on screen. You will have plenty of times once she is born that she will need tour comforting!

Awe how sad. I never have seen a baby cry in the womb. But you figure they smile, yawn, etc so why not cry also. I'm sorry how you must feel. Don't worry there will be many times you can comfort your baby when its born!. :)
