money saving tip for Mommys

Make your own baby wipes!

Final cost about 1¢-2¢ per wipe & you know EXACTLY what is going on baby's skin. You can make them for less moneu, but its important to use high quality paper towels so they don't shred while you use them. I prefer Viva pick a size because they have the best texture when wet & you end up with smaller, more manageable wipes & less waste.

You will need:
2 air tight containers big enough to hold wipes
1 roll good quality paper towels
Sharp or serrated knife (or quality kitchen shears)
1.5-2 cups boiled water, cooled to touchable temperature, but still HOT
1 tablespoon baby oil or organic coconut oil (melted)
1 tablespoon of your favorite baby wash

Directions:
1. There are two ways you can cut your paper towel roll. The first is for home "pop up" style wipes. To make this kind you need a container that will hold half a paper towel roll standing on end. To make this kind, simply cut paper towel roll in half widthwise using a very sharp or serrated knife. The second is more convenient for travel & on the go, they fit in standard travel wipe cases, and compact rectangular containers or even just quality ziplock bags. To make this kind, first cut the roll in half lengthwise using either a knife or kitchen shears, creating two long U-shaped stacks of towels. Remove cardboard tubing & cut stacks in half width wise. Combine stacks into one tall U-shaped stack of towels.

2. Combine hot water, baby or coconut oil & baby wash until well mixed.

3. Place towels in an adequately sized container, pour water mixture over them until towels stop soaking it up, then add 2-3 extra tablespoons. (For the "pop up" variety, remove the cardboard tube when wet & pull wipes up from the center.)

It is best to make these in smaller batches to prevent mold problems.  Store in a cool place to further reduce  this likelihood. If you would rather make larger batches at a time, I recommend using the flat wipe method and storing them in the freezer in ziplock bags, thawing as needed.

Happy saving, ladies!

Splendid idea...I love making home based items (i.e.:natural hair products, etc.) for my daughter..1. It's a money saver and 2. I feel better knowing that I used safe and helpful ingredients that are not product fillers and are typically better than leading brand products. Thanks for sharing!!!
