My cat did fine with my first baby. The litter thing is true but it isn't like cats are evil and trying to kill the baby. They sleep in the crib or next to the baby for body warmth just like they do with you. It's just that they can suffocate the baby if they lay on it. The best thing to do with ANY pet when you are expecting is to establish boundaries right away. Let the cat in the nursery when you are in there but don't let it jump up on crib or changing pad. When you are in the hospital have someone bring home a blanket or something that the baby has used and put it in the room. Don't wait until the day you come home. New smells can scare animals and just like you smell different because of your changing hormones your baby will be a whole new smell.
here is a helpful link. Cats can be had as a family pet as long as precautions are made!!

Yup!! Never handke cat liter box while being preggy because of toxoplasmosis. However, the cat would have to have the parasite in order to infect you. My cats have been indoors since they were born and never have stepped foot outside and have their vaccinations and I still dont handle the litter! lol.
Cats are actually very dangerous to have around infants. They carry a lot of bacteria that can be transfer through you to the fetus. My prenatal doctor told me if I have any cats, to keep away from their litter box and Dont let them lick or scratch you. Because they have parasites that can be contracted during prgnancy
I don't know if it's a sign to keep your baby away, but I do know that it's a sign, that you smell completely different now to your cat, than you did pre pregnancy. Your cat is just thrown off by the scent you are putting off, which is caused by your hormones.
I love animals but there's no way in hell I would let a cat near my baby they're filthy creatures and there's no way I want my baby getting worms or any other parasites or disease
Oh there's nothing cuter than watching a cat lick its butt and come lick your baby's face or just step out of the litter box and try to touch your baby
Tried taking an ultraviolet light around your house to see how much filth and feces your cat is spreading all over the place
pets, cats especially can be funny that way. I'm 11 weeks pregnant, and have two kitties. Never have they ever really clung to me like glue, they come around for food and love but since I've been pregnant and one of them has stuck to me, everywhere I go in the house she's right next to my right leg leaning on me, looking up at me, she has never slept at my feet she has a bed of her own in the other room, now she's sleeping right at my feet on top of them in fact, goes into the bathroom with me,doesn't leave me alone it's weird. In fact right now im on bedrest and she lays right here in front of my belly...But to answer your question yes, cats can sense things and will act differently according to how THEY interpret the situation. Maybe your kitty just needs a little extra love during this exciting time.
You have to watch cats around infants anyway. They are know to lick the babys mouth hence causing suffocation. Also, they may try and lay with the baby in the crib or bassinet and that can be dangerous. There are some people howecer who nwver had problems but I have three cats and we decided to keep the kitties out of our daughters room and our bedroom at night to be on the safe side. Also my cats have been close to me.like glue. Maybe your kitty is feeling left out over the excitement.. im not sure but just a guess.
