My five year old nephew just had to go under general anesthesia to have his cut (considered too scary for kids that age with just local anesthesia) because his speech was impacted. It hadn't interfered with him breastfeeding, so my sil had left it. Now she wishes she had just had it cut when he was an infant because then it would have just been a bit of local anesthesia and a quick snip. So if I were you, I'd get it done asap, especially if it's affecting feeding, but also to safe on speech therapy later.

I got my babies tongue snipped when he was 3 weeks old Iit was simple doc just took him away for about 30 seconds and bought him back he wasn't crying or anything and it healed in its own didn't need to medicate it anyway. I chose to snip it because I know sometimes it can interference with speach so that was my main concern he is now 2 and does not stay quiet and speaks really well and clear if my next boy has it ill definitely be getting it snipped again :)

My oldest son (now 8) is tongue tied. We found out at his 18 month appointment and realized that was why he could never latch on for breastfeeding. However, the Dr said at that point they recommend waiting to see of it affected him before having his frenulum cut. He's in 2nd grade this year and has never had any speech problems due to the short tongue. IMO, if your baby isn't having problems eating, just leave it be. If as he gets older he starts having issues, you could look into it. I've heard it's a pretty quick procedure that doesn't take long to heal but line I said,  we opted not to go that route do this is all just my opinion. Good luck either way you go!

I could not  breastfeed my son because of that. Never picked up at birth and when he was 13 mths old we only figured it out. Had it cut and he is currently having speech therapy to correct his lazy tongue. Have it cut at birth!
