Has anyone had twins and earlyon one died and one survived?

I've just come back from an ultrasound where I was prepared to hear the worst news. My numbers haven't been as high as they should be and yesterday I been spotting brown blood and today tissue. Well I found out that I had twins and one of them has died. The second one has a faint heartbeat but they want me to wait a week to confirm. I just spoke to my dr on the phone and he sounded a bit worried. I asked him if I had a higher chance of keeping the remaining twin and he said unfortunately the remaning twin can be triggered to miscarry too. I told him I'm taking a week off work and he said that I can't stop the miscarriages from happening. I told him I don't care and want to take a week off work regardless. So my question: has anyone heard of/known of one twin dying in early pregnancy and the other surviving?

Thanks

Well of course the other one will survive! Don't worry. I know because i WAS that other twin. The only thing you need to worry about is the child having a minor mental disorder. That happened to me because of the miscarriage of my twin sis, but don't worry. Your other child will be fine. :)

Hi

I'm in the same situation as you, but waiting for one of the identical twins to pass away because he/she has no fluid around them and the specialists are confident it will not survive. How are you? What happened if you don't mind me asking  ......

Thank you

Hey there, i am in the same sitatuion as you. I am 10 weeks pregnant and have had a few scans as i have been bleeding, a few weeks ago. The hospital believe it was erosions on my cervix and that it is closed and i am still pregnant. I since went for another scan two days before xmas to be told that one of the babies has no heartbeat and the other baby is only half the size it should be and has a heartrate of 50 bpm. The doctors cant understand my case as my babies were identical twins in the same sac. They are scanning me again on Tuesday for the 'benefit of the doubt' on the living baby. I was told that there was a strong suggestion of miscarriage and was sent home with miscarriage leaflets allowing me what to expect. Its crazy to think that one has died and is still inside me and not knowing what whether the other is still alive.I have since had no bleeding, still have all my pregnancy symtoms and am so confused as to whats happening! I have been off work for the past 4 weeks to have complete bedrest since the bleeding started and until i know either way what is happening, i will stay here to give my baby a fighting chance! I hope all is ok with you and my prayers are sent to you.

My friend also had lost one (she is pretty sure anyway) but had a healthy girl.  It was her drs. belief that bed rest is the best...what if that one little thing you do to relax is what made the body repair and keep the pregnancy thriving.  I know not all dr.s agree on that, but she made it against all odds by bed rest.  I really wish you the best of luck!

I also know of a woman who had a natural miscarriage at 10 weeks and assumed her pregnancy was over - when her periods never returned she want to her doc to see what was up and lo and behold, there was a second baby in there developing normally.  So It's not unheard of! good luck!

Hey there!  The doctor will not comfirm my speculation but I starting bleeding really bad and passing huge clots. Well the US tech said that my sac had a little dent in it like there was something sitting on it. My only thought is that I was carrying twins and one passed on. I am now 10 weeks and still carrying the other one fine. I also know of a lady who was prego with twins and lost one and has a healthy little boy. So if its in God's will you will keep going with a healthy baby. Take care
