Pregnant w/twins...when was your first high risk dr appt?

I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins and conceived through IVF. I was just wondering when I'm supposed to go for my first high risk dr appt? I thought it would be around now, but my OB said around the 16th week. Does that seem too far out for a first high risk appt? I'm worried that it's too far along in the pregnancy and I should be be seen before then.

Thanks

Hey ladies:  The first time that I went to the high risk doc was at 11 weeks but this is my 2nd set of twins and I had pre-term labor with the 1st set so I think I went that soon just so that the high risk doc could monitor me more carefully.  I go to the high risk doc every 4 weeks too.  I have been seeing my OB every 2 weeks now b/c they have to do this test to make sure that I am not going to go into labor in the next 2 weeks.  So far those tests have been negative.  The OB and the high risk do are keeping close eyes on me.  My OB will deliver my twins but I am not sure if the high risk doc will be there or not.  I hope that this helped u.  Take care and good luck with your little ones.

That's so good! I'm glad to hear it wasn't anything major. I had spotting in the first 6 weeks and thought the worst the whole time! Mine was not due to anything either. You're lucky to be enjoying the Olympics!!! I live in Omaha, NE, and its just cold and snowy! Beyond ready for Spring! Keep me updated on you and the little ones! When do you find out what they are? Hopefully I will find out March 17, when I go for my high risk appt!

Happy SIGH!!! :D I'm cleared to go back to work!! Wooohoooo. and there was no reason for the bleed. Its just another one of those things that can happen, and nothing we as mother's can do to prevent it. Huge Bummer, but none the less a majority of the bleeds do absorb on their own although some may stick around and cause premature labor, the positive results out weigh the negative, but still scary to go through.

So I'm fine and you're reassured!! Looks like we're all having a great week end this week!! :D
Enjoy it,,and I'm off to experience the Olympics today!!  ( I live in Vancouver BC)

Thank you both so much. Meggs, that's the same thing my OB told me, I was just worried that it was so far along into the pregnant before seeing the high risk dr. My regular OB will be delivering just as you said yours did, the high risk dr is just to help monitor me closer. I will keep you updated.

Justpacking, did they say what caused the bleed? Hope everything goes well!!

Thank you again!

When I was pregnant, I was under the care of my regular OB, but also saw a high risk doctor for ultrasounds to make sure there were no other complications associated with the twin pregnancy.  (I also conceived through ivf) My first appointment was around 16 weeks, and because everything looked good, I went back about every 4 weeks.  They did explain to me that if there were any concerns, they would see me more often.  When I delivered (emergency c-section)  my ob did the delivery, but the high risk doctor was present to help out, again in case anything went wrong.  Hope this helps!  Best of luck!

Hey there Alli, I'm 13 1/2 weeks pregnant with twins and my first OB appointment is today (fri. 19th of Feb) My OB was referred to by the dr. at the fertility clinic. I'm a surrogate mother who also went through IVF. and like you, I'm also carrying twins.
To the best of my knowledge being a high risk pregnancy because I'm carrying twins, I was referred to this OB because its his specialty and he will be delivering the twins. Is there a reason that you'll be seeing another dr. other than your OB? Or does your OB not deliver multiples?
Can't wait to hear back from you. And I'll keep you posted on my appointment.
I had a subchorionic bleed and I've been in bed for the past week, ugh. Today is the day that I get to find out if I'm able to go back to work. Keeping my fingers crossed. :D
