10 week old and the flu

DS is 10 weeks old and DD is 10 years old. DD has type B flu. She has been sick since Thursday. Vomiting, diarrhea, chills, fever (103-105), body ache, etc. She spent most of the day in ER on Saturday due to dehydration and fever that refused to come down. She is beginning to do better but is still running a high fever. I am so worried that DS is going to get sick. We've been trying to keep the two separated. We've been spraying everything with disinfectant (door knobs, toilet, remote control, etc). I am breastfeeding and I heard that breastfed babies are much less likely to get the flu or any sickness for that matter. Is this true? Anyone else breastfed a baby that still got the flu? If so how bad was it, did baby have to be hospitalized?

It seems like you've taken every precaution to prevent DS from catching the flu. I know that in our household one sick person doesn't always mean the others get sick. Just take it one day at a time. If he starts to show symptoms (they usually come fast) then keep his pediatrician up-to-date. Hopefully, though, he'll be fine.

"I am breastfeeding and I heard that breastfed babies are much less likely to get the flu or any sickness for that matter. "

This is true to an extent.  Breast milk contains antibodies that the mother may have built up in her system in response to a certain illness and those particular antibodies are passed onto baby which will help prevent baby from getting sick.  However, if she was never exposed to a certain microorganism which would cause her to produce antibodies to fight that illness, then the breastmilk will not help protect baby.  I hope that makes sense - Ive had too much caffeine today and my brain is foggy.

I hope DS gets better soon.
