6w3d pregnant w/no heartbeat

I previously had a miscarriage in April, it aborted before I even realized I was pregnant.  I just found out I was pregnant again.  I am 6w3d according to my dates.  I just went in to have a vaginal ultrasound and everything looked normal, yolk sac, embryo, and it was even measuring big at 6w5d.  Unfortunately, they did not find a heartbeat.  My HCG #'s have been going up and up like normal.  The doctor didn't give me much hope.  I have no signs of miscarriage so I plan on going back in in a week to see if there has been any more growth or if it has stopped.  The Dr. said if it died it must have just happen within the last day or so since it was still big for my dates.  I am hoping for someone to give me some positive feedback.

My wife and I went through a similar event in August, only we had an anebryonic pregnancy aka blighted ovum.  Only we didn't find out till our first ultrasound at 12 weeks.  She had the D&C, and I am happy to say that we are already pregnant again, and will have our first ultrasound next week at 8 weeks since we had the miscarriage the last time.  Keep your head up and keep trying.  God does everything for a reason.

Well, ultrasound today showed no fetal growth and no heartbeat.  I will go in and have a D&C rather then waiting it out.  Thanks for all your support.

Your story gives me hope as I went in yesterday as well to have an u/s done and they wouldn't let me see anything but sent the results to my dr. he told me the baby was there and measured 5-6 wks but there was no heartbeat. I have been hysterically crying since 3 pm yesterday! I've been praying and have lots of other ppl praying for us too. I had mc in July so my dr has been checkin my hcg levels and monday they were 10500 and wed they were 14500. b/c they didn't double is why he sent me for an u/s. I have to have blood drawn again this wed to see where the levels are. I pray they go up significantly and that I get a new u/s and the baby is fine!!
ERICA007---I am praying for you as well as it seems we are in the same boat. I am just now 6 wks today so you're a few days ahead of me. I pray things turn out well for you. Keep us posted!!

I read all these post on here about ladies going for their u/s at like 5 or 6 wks.  It makes me sad. Here where I live they wont even take u for an u/s until your 10 wks along.  I wish I could have seen it from the beginning.  I didn't even get to hear the heart beat until I was 15 wks.  Things are really different everywhere.. But yes I have heard that up until like 9 wks it can be hard to find the heartbeat. I'm sure everything is just fine, just wait till your next appointment, I'm positive you will hear it then. Its so amazing. I love it now I get to hear it at all my appointments. And I'm so glad that I only have one more appointment this month(for my 6 month checkup) then I get to go more often, twice next month and then once a week after that. I can't wait.. Good luck :)

at 6 wks it could very well have been too early to detect a heartbeat.  I would definately wait until your next ultrasound and see.  As the other posters have said there are many women who do not see a heartbeat at 5-6 weeks only to have a perfectly normal fetal pole and heartbeat at their repeat ultrasound.  Don't give up hope just yet.

hi there this sounds exactly what happened to me,i had light bleeding ,went for a scan there was a sac and pole but no heartbeat(i was 6weeks 2 days) so they more or less told me that i was about to miscarry,i went home crying but prayed and prayed .i started to bleed again and thought i had lost my baby but my partner said i had to have faith but i found it really hard. we went for follow up scan a week later and there was the beautiful heart beat,i could not believe it. the doctors are far too quick at giving out bad news and jumping to conclusions. my daughter was born safely weighing 8lb1oz and we called her FAITH. she is now 7 years old and i am pregnant with my 5th child now. good luck to you and i am keeping my fingers crossed 4 ya. keep me posted x x x

If you do some searches on this site you'll find plenty of women who didn't see a heartbeat at 6 weeks but did see one at 7 weeks. Both of my pregnancies haven't had heartbeats until 7 weeks, but I ended up miscarrying both times a few weeks later.

Try not to get stressed out yet as your normal hcg levels are a great sign! It's totally possible you implanted late or your dates are off or your little one's heart is taking a little longer to develop. Breathe and hang on until your next ultrasound and hopefully you will have good news. Best of luck!
