I like RockRose's answer, but this is what calmed me down with my first: you can't do anything to stop it. That baby is coming out one way or another, so you might as well stop stressing over it. For some reason that though calms me down. Just let it happen. Your body knows what to do.
Here's the deal, Lissa. Back in the day when there were NO pain medications, women willingly had 8 or more babies. It's not that bad.
Labor isn't an other-worldly pain. It's pain. And if you've reached child bearing age, you understand pain hurts - you've had pain before, and this is painful.
But if you've lived a normal active life, this isn't some kind of outerspace pain that you can't imagine. And interestingly, it isn't the pain of pushing the baby out that's the worst, it's the very strong uterine contractions near the end of labor. So, it's your very strong healthy uterus contracting as nature intended. It's a healthy, strong thing that causes pain.
You'll do fine.
Im due May 6th lol. This is my fourth and I am finding out that despite my being a "veteran" at pregnancies, there is SO much I totally dont know lol.
