Afraid to lose my job because of my pregnancy

I'm a recent college graduate. I was finally fully hired by my company last week. Although that was super exciting news for me, I also found out I'm almost 8weeks pregnant. I'm 24 years old and I'm so scared to tell my employer. I don't even know what to say or how to come out with it. I'm really scared to lose the only income I have for me and my child. I know there are laws to protect me. But has any mother put there gone through a similar situation?

It's better for you to be honest and tell them now rather than later. I found out I was expecting when I was three months due to my irregular menstrual cycle. I notify my boss right there and then. She was okay with the news the first day and then I started noticing a difference in her and a certain discriminating attitude towards me. She ended up taking me off the schedule and calling me to meet up to tell me nicely that I'm a great employer but there wasn't no hours for available to keep my shift. The day after she already had a Now Hiring sign posted up. She obviously didn't want me here due to my pregnancy. It can happen but it doesn't mean all employers are like this lady. Good Luck and congrats on your pregnancy (:

Well technically it is considered illegal for them to fire u due to pregnancy. Just like in an interview it is illegal for them to turn u away becuz of pregnancy yet they still do it but becuz u already have the job I doubt they will take that risk becuz if they do fire, u can apply for unemployment and sue them. They may not be happy or they may be congratulating u. Either way the most theyll do is give u maternity leave once the time comes.

I told my bosses when I first found out at eight weeks. They were great with me. Now I'm on maternity leave at 39 weeks and I still have a job when I'm ready to go back. Hopefully your bosses are just as cooperative and understanding. I'd ask about their maternity policies and study them hard. If they gave you a handbook, study that, too.
