BFP then BFN...confused!?!?

Hello ladies!  I tested this morning with my SMU with a Clearblue Easy +/- and got a faint BFP after about 3 minutes.  I decided to go to the store and buy a First Response test and test again.  Well, the First Response was negative.  I'm 1 day late and have had swollen, painful breasts and back/hip pain which I did with my previous pregnancy (DS is 4).  I know I should just wait until tomorrow morning and test again but my question is which test should I use because I still 1 left of each.  Does anyone have any input on which one test is better?  DH and I have been TTC for about 6 months now so it's been frustrating and expensive!  Any input would be greatly appreciated!  Baby dust to all!!!

Rachelle

I used a Clear Blue Digital and tested the day my period was supposed to arrive...it showed "pregnant" and I am now 36 weeks :-)

I suggest buying a double pack of the Clear Blue digitals and taking one first thing tomorrow morning. If it's negative wait 2 days and take the other one with FMU.

Good Luck and LOTS OF BABY DUST!!!!

Broke down and took another test with my SMU since that was when I got the + yesterday.  I again used a CBE and again it showed a +, but unlike yesterday it faded away after 10 minutes.  I heard that the CBE digitals also had a high false positive reading.  Are there any other digital tests out there?  I haven't been paying attention when buying tests, I usually just get whatever is on sale.  I would go get a blood test but I'm going to be going onto DH's insurance effective 9/23 so I don't want to have to pay towards my deductible now if I don't have to.  If I don't get AF by next Wednesday then I'm definetly going to make an appointment with my PCP and request a blood test.  In the meantime I'm going to try to wait and not test for a couple days and see what happens.  I'll keep everyone posted as to my results.  Thanks again for everyone's input!

I would splurge and get the digital test. It is very accurate and says yes or no so there is no guessing involved. I had to use it after a few ambiguous tests and this was the only one that could convince my DH i was pregnant. GOOD LUCK!

that's happening to me right now....my first + was on the 23....got a + on the 24 (both on EPT +/-)...on the 25 took a FRER and it was negative....took another EPT on the 26th and +....was afraid of evap lines and took a EPT at night to test them.....BFN....not even a hint of a +....so I was like...ok.....wth.....took another FRER  and still -  .....over all I had 7 EPT + and 4 FRER -  ......I feel pregnant....been  a lil crampy....can't get comfortable....boobs feel heavy and my nipples super sore and puffy.....tired (which is good cause I have insomnia but lately hasn't been an issue cause I'm so tired).......I have blood work scheduled for the 10th so have to try and hang in there.....it's gonna be sooo hard.....save yourself some money and an anxiety attack and get your blood tested.....FYI.....EVAP LINES ARE COLORLESS OR GREY!!

Sorry for the BFP =( I have never had any issues with a FRER. Those are absoultely the most reliable. If your period doesnt start though in the next couple of days I would test again. Even if you use the CBE it should give you a better result by then because you would have more HCG in your system if you are indeed pregnant. Good luck to you =)

Update:  Took FRER test and used FMU and it was a BFN, no faint line, nothing.  I am out of the FRER tests but I do still have a CBE +/- test left but that is the one that gave me a faint positive yesterday.  Has anyone took a FRER test got a BFN but turned out to be pregnant.  I'm not sure what to think since those are supposed to be the best on the market.  I'm currently 2 days late now and I don't feel like AF is coming.  My bb's are sore and swollen still and I'm still having the back and hip pain.  I was reading online that CBE's are notorious for giving false positives so I'm a little disheartened now.....

The postive line was thinner than the negative line :-(  Was really hoping for a BFP this month!  When I took the FRER the result was clearly a BFN, no chance for a faint BFP.  I'll just wait and test in the AM using a FRER with my FMU....I'll keep you posted on the results.  I didn't know that about the Clearblue Easy tests....and to think how expensive they are (luckily I got mine on sale and I had a coupon).  Thank you very much for the response and super sticky baby dust to you as well :-)

hey there rachelle, I would suggest using the first response. The reason for this is,  the first response is very sensitive and the fact that it uses pink dye means that there is less room for confusion. The clear blue tests (especilly the +/- symbol ones) have been known for the dye running over into the antibody strip and giving what appears to be a positive line when in fact there isn't one. However, A good way to tell them apart is, when I got the false positive from my clearblue test, my positive line was very thin compared to the negative line, this would indicate a false reading. I would suggest using the first morning urine for either test because that will help! I am sorry you have to wait, I know what it is like I can tell you. Again if your test was the same thickness for both lines, it would suggest that the test was indeed positive :) I really hope it is for you, good luck and I hope this was a little bit helpful. let me know how you get on if you can please? good luck and super sticky baby dust for you too! chrissy! x  :)

Yes it can be, haha. Especially when you're dying to find out if you are or not. You can just try holding it for a few hours today and then testing later. Just try not to drink anything so it doesn't dilute it. Good luck!!!!

It was about 3 hours after the first test but I did drink a blue Icee before I took the test.  Thanks for the response.....I know I should wait until tomorrow morning but that is always so hard!!!

Did you take the second test right after you did the first one? If so, that's probably why you got a negative. I would retest tomorrow morning with the First Response and see what it shows. If you don't want to wait, wait at least 4 hours without urinating or drinking any fluids and then test. This should allow the hCG to build up in your urine and give you an accurate answer.
