Baby Judah has arrived!
Judah Isaac graced us with his presence on Sunday, Sept 25 at 6:44pm. He weighed in at 9lbs 2oz and 21 inches long! He's absolutely gorgeous.
Long story short - arrived at birth center at around 1:30pm at only 2cm dilated. Went on a hike outside the birth center (which is located in a wooded area; very beautiful) to help things along. When I reached 5cm I got in the tub in my birth suite and I stayed there for a long time. I did get out to go pee once and when I came back they had dimmed the lights low and set out battery-operated candles (can't put real ones out for safety reasons). So pretty and helped with the ambiance!
Labored more in the tub. I honestly felt like my contractions felt the same in the tub as when laboring out of the water. Some people feel that way, others feel more relaxed and less pain in the water. Um so things got hazy at this point because they just do in transitional labor. I decided I wanted to get out of the tub and got on the bed (just a regular queen-sized bed; they put down huge absorbent pads so keep the sheets from getting nasty) and as soon as I got on my hands-and-knees the urge to push came so strong. I got his head out in one push but his shoulders were stuck (he's got linebacker shoulders!) so my midwife had to help get his little arms out. Hands-and-knees is the best position to unstick a stuck baby so it was a good thing I got out of the tub and onto the bed before pushing!
Another push and he was out! I didn't know this at the time, it happened so fast and I was in a position where I couldn't see what was going on, but my midwife had my husband get up on the bed next to her and once she helped free baby's shoulders she had Daddy catch him and bring him between my legs so I could reach down for him. So Daddy got to catch him and he said it was the most amazing experience!
So that is his paraphrased birth story! If you follow my blog I'll be posting birth pics as soon as I have them (waiting on photographer) and more details there since some people like to know all the details.
